Bike bits from another country and Ebay

Hi All,

Firstly, apologies for mentioning the "B" word so soon after the last thread about them

but needs must ...

Has anyone else had problems with Ebay's effing "Global Shipping Program"?

I want to import three pairs of handlebar grips available in the US (why I want to import three pairs of handlebar grips from the US isn't important here but I can bore with that part of the story on request).

From the Ebay listing, the effing "Global Shipping Program" would treble the price - i.e. without me even signing into Ebay, it knows I'm looking at the item from GB.

I converse a bit with the seller, as I want three pairs, he offers a lower price but, by the time I see the offer (because Ebay

didn't bother to notify me he'd offered), Ebay's withdrawn it. He can't offer again so he asks me to offer, I offer the same, he accepts, but between me making the offer, him accepting and Ebay asking me to pay, Ebay's (not the seller) added $20 to the total price.

Ebay's weasel words when you make an offer is the total price is "Estimated". But I think, hang on, Ebay knows I'm looking at the item from GB without me signing-in; in any event, you have to sign in to make an offer, how come they can't calculate the correct price at the time of the offer?

OK so where in the good old USA is the seller? Can you not get one of our USA contingent to purchase them and simply post them to you?

The use of the Ebay "Global Shipping Program" ( don't you just hate American spelling) is not obligatory. The seller can opt to make their own delivery arrangements with their own choice of carrier or postal service, so if the EGP is in place then it is due to the seller making that choice rather than Ebay imposing it.

I always delete that option and then select my own carrier even for international deliveries.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

Hi Stuart I never buy if a seller uses global shipping due to to the add on price. When i sell overseas, what is sold at 6 pounds, is charged at 21 pounds to the customer. To buy direct from a USA seller, you can ask him to list an item and not list it with global shipping and you just buy it after the seller sends an invoice including post. His listing should be at a set time you agree so that he lists, and you buy a few minutes later. The key part is the seller must not list to sell it through their global system. Those Indian tanks are not using global shipping at all so they have left global shipping off the listing.

I bought a new "normal" seat for the BMW from Poland on ebay. I ws charged 29% VAT by HMRC (It was VAT free leaving Poland) and £11 admin by Fedex. So, you may think Fedex are expensive, but I hear others charge more and you may not like VAT but you are paying it on everything else so why should ebay purchases be exempt.

Seller was great, price was good, its just BMW I'd grump about.

... BMW sell the F750GS with the option of a low seat or low suspension and a low seat. Now I'm a short-arse, so wanted a lowered bike ideally the low suspension otion but to keep knee bend sensible a normal seat. That'll be £350 for a second seat sir. So I got the low + low cheaper option which is great, but a bit too low. Now I have a replacement knee I wanted the normal seat. It was £162 brand new from Poland and fits perfectly.

I just wish BMW had let customers choose suspension height and seat independentlt of each other rather than bundle options and try to sell duplicate seats

If you are not in a rush for the grips, I can give you my daughters address in Denver who I am going to visit in March and back in April. I can then bring them back with me.

As several here know, I'm happy to get parts in the USA shipped to me, then send them on the cheapest way to the UK. If you like, I can check the contents and make sure it's what you ordered before incurring overseas shipping costs.

Ian, I'll go with your offer if I may? I don't need 'em urgently and, if Lannis sends 'em, HMRC might still want their cut when the parcel turns up in GB.

Lannis helped me with some bike parts I wanted on eBay USA.

I gave Lannis the eBay numbers and he bought them checked them and posted them to me, all very smooth, no extra charges !

Well done Lannis and thank you again.
