Just how "hard" is the Hard Knott Pass?

I wouldn't class myself as any better than an average rider, but I managed it easily two-up with panniers and camping gear on a 400cc custom parallel twin. Didn't even get caught in the wrong gear, which is a habit of mine.

The road surface is generally a bit poor in places last time i went there. I would imagine a heavy long bike would have problems as i found on the Isle of Man at the hairpin. Pillion had to get off so i could paddle it around

The first time i did that road was in a 998 Morris Cooper. I had to stop then could not pull away. Next was the Austin A40 1098 which just flew up over relatively easy. A Rover 2000 auto became stuck when the torque convertor just kept it slipping. 2012, i took my Vauxhall astra 2 litre diesel up it and it just pulled very easy with 162 BHP
That Isetta must have been fun Dave but i think they are 300cc and one of the best bubbles. Back wheel must have been bumping about

Did it in a car a long time ago - wasn't too concerned.

Try Glen Quaich instead.

Belach na Baa is a good one, but I have a picture of Glen Quaich.

In general its a lovely single track through the valley and over the moors road. Then there are the 2 haipins in the middle and at the N end on the way into Kenmore, you drop about 1000 ft in under a mile. I boiled the back brake of my old F650 on that trailing it the rear brake down through the gravel strewn hairpins.
