Friday afternoon.

After about 3.30 p.m the traffic starts to build up as a lot of people leave work early to get to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast for the weekend at the beach, surfing, drinking, eating at great restaurants and chasing wild women.
Motorcycles are parked everywhere outside pubs.

Mmmm ... since moving to Scotland, I've found many Scots - even more than the English - to be great celebrators of Poets Day, albeit perhaps not "to get to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast" ...

It's all gold and sunshine up here, surely you've worked that out. You must be close to being classed as a local by now (well, in another 20 yrs)

Back in 81-82 as a spotty shipwright apprentice every Friday during the summer there would be a Union meeting called to discuss some perceived injustice and inevitably this would result in a 'token' walk out. It took me a couple of weeks to work out that half the chippies were golfers and the other half were drinkers, so this walk out gave them extra time to indulge their 'hobbies' I was told as an apprentice I didn't have to walk out, but I chose to exercise that right when the sun was out, so I could p!ss off on my bike.
This was the forerunner of 'poets' day.

The bit in brackets is probably more correct ... one of the first friends the missus made after we moved up here is in her mid-fifties, moved here when she was 14 (and only from Glasgow), she says she's still an "incomer" to the locals ...

My granny and grandad moved to Sandbank, Dunoon and lived there about 40yrs. He was known as Jimmy Forbes from Greenock

The good thing of living on Dartmoor in a small village.after a week knew everyone open the kitchen window and a pile of vegetables on the windowsill or by the back door ..the village in South East Devon where I am now only know my neighbours and the doctors in the surgery

I've been in Edinburgh since 1977 and I still get the occasional "I know you are English ... but"
