Kevin Dean

Many of you who migrated from the earlier more densely populated version of IKBA will remember Kevin Dean.

Sadly we were yesterday notified that he has recently passed away. I have no info on the cause.

RIP Kevin we will miss you and the world is a poorer place for your passing.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

Is he the one that went to live on a house boat and was a keen photographer?

Yes, he was that and a lot more.

Made his living as an elevator engineer, travelling the country. Had a beautiful collection of bikes in a lockup near the canal boat on which he lived.

Master fettler - he built a show-quality Norton International starting with a pair of engine cases, working out of his storage lockup.

Rode old Harleys, Moto Guzzis, BSAs, everything to camps and swap meets all over the southern USA and England. Used to often travel to Georgia, USA to visit friends and go fishing.

He was the most helpful and active "club man" around, although he hated the idea of single-marque clubs and never belonged to one.

He was one that took us in hand when we splashed into Two Dales at 2:00 in the morning, and set up Fay and my tent for us and fixed us bacon sarnies and tea.

He showed us around the track and aviation museum at Brooklands; just such a helpful and sociable guy, although he was quiet and never put himself forward.

I could write on about him but he probably wouldn't have liked that, so I'll just say that this world is a diminished place without him. Rest in Peace, Kevin!

Condolences to his family and all who knew him. He sounds like a person who will truly be missed by many.

Thanks for posting that Mike. Kev was one of our original posters on here. I met him many times and he was a lovely man. RIP Kev.

He beat the big C only for it to comeback, with no chance of recovery this time.

Two reasons for that. One is that Kev always had a camera in hand so everyone figured "No need in me taking a picture, Kev will have pics of everything.

Secondly, he didn't particularly like being in pictures himself and would always manage to move to the rear of everyone else's cameras, unless you just surprised him ... !

And he wasn't even old in "old crew" terms, like here on IKBA where we don't even consider someone "old" until they pass 90 ... I think Kev was about 63 or so, although don't quote me. Younger than me, anyhow. But cancer is no respecter of persons or age ...

It's always hard to say much at these times. I met Kev a couple of times and enjoyed his contributions on the net. Seemed a kind fellow and will be missed.
