A one time we were completely cut off the dual carriageway from the M5 was flooded and cars straned as the river Clyst had broken its banks the other way through Topsham was also flooded and cars stranded by the garden centre just so happens that at tha spot they have built on the flood plain.. the B 3180 was also flooded so yes Exmouth and Woodbury were cut off you could get to me through the back lanes but very fiddley
Oh yes Cornwals hosepipe ban hasn't been lifted also parts of Devon ...you couldn't make it up...

Exmouth is all good. Just a few large puddles where drains are not cleared. I stayed in so i expect some of the local villages were getting flooded.
Exmouth did have severe flooding when the Withycombe Brook flash flooded and hundreds of houses had 2 foot high water. They built a relief channel after that. Problem here is new house building taking away the earth that the rain soaks into. New estate being built right now on farmland so they are getting nearer to Dave at Goodmores farm. Possibly 1500 more houses but no spending on schools. The builder allocated land for the new school but the County council failed to take up the offer so building houses on the school site and kids will have to go to Exeter schools 10 mile trip bt bus or train.

Seems a universal story, Geoff. We had always planned to retire to Bovey Tracey but watched development after development with no extra infrastructure and changed our minds

Bovey is now trying to turn the shops into small flats much against what the locals want. Once the shops begin to get filled in, all the others close soon after as no one bothers to walk along a High street with 3 shops. Bovey is now overspill for Plymouth workers to live cheaply

The land opposite me at Woodbury planning for 75 houses 26 affordable? Both sides of the steam that floods they will have to put in new roads as no access at the moment ..then there is planning for 26 houses on Globe hill entrance on the hill four affordable three six Bedroom???? And large parking area.. Everyone says to me when I say whare I live "Oh wonderfull the rich live there must be lovely

the only good thing is it has public toilets and once a Morgan garage which is now a very dubious place to take your car only ever seen a hammer used..

Wonder what the definition of "affordable housing" is?

Used to know a local councillor around here - there were some "affordable" houses being built at the time, he said that is was a joke that they were "affordable" to anyone living around here.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Three years ago 140 homes were built on farmland on the edge of my Downland village. The builder only managed to sell a few of the 20 affordable ones so the council have rehoused families from temporary accommodation in Croydon. The newcomers are quite conspicuous and the small village school is struggling to cope. I'm told that it's the first time that the school and the health centre had to engage interpreters.
It's also noticeable how the number of 4x4's, Barbour jackets and dogs has increased. A couple of my long-established neighbours bought dogs during the lockdowns, one of which barks and snarls at anything that moves, careering wildly around at the extent of its lead like a hooked salmon. Please God it never gets free.

I always laugh at the '15% of the development will be affordable housing.' What does that make the other 85%?!

The definition of Affordable Housing differentiates between cheap houses, privately rented and social housing. However all three are included in the simple expression "Affordable Housing."

It was designed to provide decent housing for those who for a variety of reasons could not afford to pay the market rate for their housing. With many new houses costing well in excess of £300,000 it prevents many families from affording a new property. First time buyers are also penalised by high property prices. Five houses from mine is a house for sale for £550,000. The estate agents details give a mortgage projection. With a 10% deposit the monthly payments would be £3400. Now not everybody is going to be able to afford that. So simply extrapolate the values for various house values and the problem becomes very serious. Even a two up, two down terraced house at £250000 with 10% deposit is a problem.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

2 bed semi bungalow that I bought around 35 years ago for 50 k recently sold for 260k.

Mind you I sold it after 10 years for 170k

My first house was 25k and I bought that with money I had saved since starting work - and that one shot up by 10k in about 18 months.

It's all got very silly.

that Jerry is precisely the problem facing many young and/or low paid people. They cannot afford to buy and as the majority of privately rented property is open to the effects of commercial forces, they cannot afford to rent. Something of a conundrum It appears.

Yes, exactly that. At present there appear to be a myriad of swords of Damocles hanging over the country. Everything has been cut to the bone and beyond, huge taxation and nothing to show for it, all services/utilities maxed out in debt to cream off dividends to foreign investors and the infrastructure broken. When the axe falls on our economy there is going to be a lot of blood. You can bet your bottom dollar that the creators of the mess will walk away richer whilst the rest of us, who worked, paid taxes and lived frugally will pick up the tab.

I have about 15,000 Exmouth photos my Brother collected for many years. Many are on display boards when he used to give the public a chance to view them. In 1977, he walked all the roads and took a picture every 50 yards along the streets. Its a great history but i have no place to display it.Everyone wants money to use a large hall now although my Brother was able to use the halls free back in the 1980s
