Dissapointing E-Bay purchase

While I have the KH front end apart I decided to upgrade the as standard poor braking with a tried and tested upgrade which uses a Kawasaki EX500 Caliper.

These calipers of the right year are hard to come by, but "luckily" found one on E-Bay described as "good working order".

Very dissapointed when it arrived as the sliding section was partially seized, and both pistons and seals were shot so not as described.

Had these not been so rare I would have demanded my money back, as it is I will have to fit new seals / pistons etc. The seized part was an easy fix.

This is the first time I have been "had" - waiting to see what the sellers response is to my negative feedback.

Who needs a signature anyway......

I bought some bits from France and the A*hole sent me the correct package and the correct weight of scrap metal. EBAY were not in the least interested.

Just the few spoiling it for everyone else.

TBH I dont care what the vendor says (he has yet to reply) as the caliper is useable, just that I have to fork out for pistons / seals, so works out costly for me.

Oh yes, and the pads are scrap as they are contaminated with brake fluid.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Frankly, I wouldn't trust an unknown-to-me used caliper without doing a complete overhaul.

I bought an eBay used caliper once where the pistons had been greased with copperslip. I didn't used it in the end and put it in the bottom of a cupboard the shed. I could well have dumped it when I moved.

The caliper I had on the H2 was an E-Bay item, was very clean when it arrived.

It was on the bike for the best part of 5 years with no probs.

Hopefully this one will be fine once I fit new pistons / seals / pads - at least if I do that I can have confidence in it.

How did it look in the photos? I am very cautious about any ebay listing that doesn't have really good clear pics.

It actually looked pretty decent, there was another much cheaper one that looked like scrap.

Just shows that looks can be decieving sometimes.

Oh come on Andy we all know the camera doesn’t lie, well not much. Anyway as you said it’s rare and you have it and it doesn’t take much to overhaul them despite the roasting I got from A35 Newbie to the contrary for saying so.

I guess not upgraded, just relocated to near the A35 in Dorset......not that he lived anywhere near the A10 previously!!

Never met him, probably would be nice to meet him sometime for a chat.

Gillingham is not that big so probably easy to find him - seem to remember he had the bike with the "knob"

Far from failing to get out and about, Paul organises the annual Giants girder fork run - a cavalcade of girder forked bikes around rather tasty Dorset lanes. I think he's quite a force in the local VMCC section.

Pronounced differently. Dorset is fish Gill, Kent is Jill. Not sure about the Norfolk Gillingham...

It's about 60 quid to refurbish - new pistons / seals etc.

Looked exactly as per the photos, but obviousley you could not see the state of the pistons / seals.

It's the principle, description was a blatant lie, I would never sell something described as in good order it I knew it wasnt.

To honest I guess in this day and age.

Vendor has not sent any response by the way, and from his feedback I am the only negative one.

Guess I was just unlucky, or no one else bothers to complain.
