Cadwell Park

We arrived Thursday and set up camp ready for the classic track day on the Friday for bikes up to 1998. This was run by MSV the owners of Cadwell, Snetterton, Donnington and Brands. 7.30 sign on and go for verbal briefing which was done in a very professional way without talking down to us like some clubs. Got both bikes through noise test with both well in the 105Db limit. First ride out on track was a bit tricky with some damp patches under the trees and aslo on the approach to the mountain part of circuit. Second ride started to get dry and by the third outing it was dry all round. Great crowd of riders very fast but also very polite on track with no paint swopping passes. By the end of the day I had been out on track seven times and must admit to getting a bit knackered but so enjoyable.
Will definitely be doing more track days next year as they are much better value than riding with the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club. Saturday and Sunday we rode with the British Historic Racing Club. This was my first time riding with this club and it sure won't be my last. Very laid back and great track time. Sunday came the rain so decided to pack up. So over the weekend I had nine track sessions and if Sunday had been better it would have been eleven times out on circuit. That would ammount to two and a half years to get that time if I rode with CRMC so next year is going to be very different for me in that I will get more track time at less money. The only bad side about the weekend was I had three rides out on my Honda NC30 with the overheating problem and I thought I had cured the fault until ride number four and it went into the red on the temp gauge and overheated. I think this must be a new fault and am suspecting the thermostat has stuck shut as the rads were cold when I came in. Have ordered a new one but cant test the original before I get it apart. So that's it for me for the 2023 race season. It's been good but I have learnt a lot at the end of this year and next years plans will be very different. All I have to worry about now is will I pass my medical again for my 2024 licence. Must admit its Tuesday so two days since my great weekend and I'm still knackered

I was also at Cadwell and like "old" Jerry I am still knackered. Mind you that's because I spent most of the morning walking in circles around the paddock looking for Jerry. LOL.

The rain cleared early on Sunday and as usual the racing was fast and furious.

Jerry really pleased you enjoyed the BEST cercuit in England . I was told years ago the VMCC Club was offered to buy it but they refused .

Moe the VMCC was indeed offered the opportunity to buy Cadwell Park some years ago, but their "mamagement" being devoid of business sense and lacking in courage declined to buy it.. I believe they bought Allen House instead which appears to be something of a proverbial millstone around their collective necks.

And Cadwell wouldn't have been a millstone?

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I had zero faith in their financial competence then......and little more now.

Cadwell could have incurred crippling overheads even worse than Allen House without zealous management. Owning a racetrack is not a road to riches as Rockingham showed and I doubt VMCC would have had the resources or acumen to secure the likes of BSB to garner sufficient income.

As is often said, other opinions are available.

True Will most circuits survive today by being used a lot hence the ammount of track days for cars and bikes during the year. Really needs a lot of organisation and enthusiasm.

Will I never said that Cadwell would be a guaranteed earner, but it could have been, particularly as the BHR set up is part of the VMCC. However Allen House is simply a set of premises which house a "library" and has a few part time staff, it does not in its own right provide opportunities to create an income source.

Would the VMCC have made Cadwell into a real source of income? Maybe or maybe not, but we will never know as we can only speculate.
