My bank balance being hit.

So far my bloody con tax called ULEZ is costing me between £50 and £70 a month. Sure makes my hobby expensive and I really am considering getting out of the S.... Hole they called London.

Yes, sell up and for the price you get for your house, get one in Devon with grounds, detached, 2 or 3 garages, Koi carp pond, 5 bedrooms and a granny annexe. How about living on the seafront even !. Some super houses around here

Get your arse up here and have easy access to Mallory Park, Cadwell, Silverstone and Donington and nice countryside in which to exercise your bikes.

Not sure where my nearest track is. Prolly Snetterton. There are some downsides to living the rural idyll. My nearest Screwfix is 17 miles is either direction.

I think I just heard on the news that Labour are intending to pass more power on to the Mayors. Probably the Mad Mullah ( No relation to Mad Mike ) will extend the ULEZ boundary yet again. Leave now Jerry.

"Reason" and "Sanity" both say get out of the Caliphate while you can.

Somewhere closer to the tracks, no ULEZ, nice riding roads, cheaper living. It all makes sense.

But I do recognize that there's a sense of "Home" that is very hard to shake and is not subject to "sense" or objective measurement. We like what we are used to, and sometimes don't recognize what it is doing to us.

Look out that you aren't like the fighter pilots that have succumbed to the "Cocoon Syndrome". Their plane is on fire, parts coming off, engine dead, diving toward the ground, but they eject too late because the cockpit is a place where they are comfortable and have always been "in control", and outside the cockpit it's unknown and new and dangerous.... "I can still handle this..."

Gotta be worth some serious thought Jerry.

I know that London is your roots, and pulling yourself away would be difficult, but think about the less stressful you and the old mod could have.

As has been said you would probably have left over cash to buy more bikes by the time you have sold your London Pad and bought something more rural.

Going back to my roots was easier for me except, my son is now about 3 hours away & my daughter is 3+ hours. However it is working out reasonably OK

Move north west of London you can get to most circuits trouble down here in Devon M5 main Rout out often accidents then the whole place is buggered .

That's my problem Lannis a sense of home. I have been a Londoner all my life and I'm still lucky to live in the nice part but I fear not for much longer as the scum spreads

My mate has just moved from Hounslow not a local but lived there 45years he has gone to Kent he lived in the shadow of the M25 but the zone went beyond him .. so decided he had to move..

That's a very shrewd move. Pass responsibility to the LA's, set housing targets and the NIMBY's will blame the LA's and not the Gov't. for ruining their lifestyles.

I don't know about more tax, it is suggested that they will do a Gordon Brown and steal from our pension pots. Glad I never voted for them, so I accept no blame.

I'm with you M M, unless they raise the basic rate of tax they can't take more of your pension. After you die, well you won't have to worry about it.

When you die Den they can take a lot of your money in inheritance tax. When my uncle died I was shocked how much the thieving bastards took from a man that left school at 14 suffered with asthma all his life but just got on with running his own company and hardly ever taking any time off.

I'm aware of that Jerry which is why some time ago I made changes so that the ownership of greatest value, the house, is, or was, owned equally between my wife, myself and the two kids. When I keel over the house will automatically go to the kids so should not attract inheritance tax. What I think Labour plan is before anything in a pension pot is shelved out, and I have no experience nor knowledge of pension pots, they want it included in any sum left so they can get their grubby hands on it. Of course anyone that has built up a business would probably be hard pushed to keep anything from their clutches.

It saved my life in 1949 when I contracted osteomyelitis, so I'm very much with you in that regard Lannis.

Yep, that's how it used to be. In my own case I came down with a fever and had a cut and swelling on my knee. My mum called the doctor who diagnosed housemaid's knee and told her to keep me in bed until the fever passed.

A few hours later I was obviously getting worse so, unusually for that time when the local doctor was regarded almost with reverence and, certainly, utter respect, Mum decided to insist on a second opinion from our own doctor's partner in the practice. Just as well she did; I was 'blue-lighted' (probably just a clanging bell on the ambulance in those days in fact) to the local infirmary in a coma where osteomyelitis was diagnosed and my parents' permission was sought to amputate my leg in an effort to save my life.

One final roll of the dice was suggested - treatment with a relatively-new wonder of the medical world called 'penicillin'. Problem was, they were told, I might react badly to the stuff and, if so, that would very much be the end of that. No prizes for guessing how my system did react and they were consequently able to stabilise my condition, operate on the femur to deal with the osteomyelitis and, happy to report, save my leg, thus enabling me to take up motorcycling etc some years later. I'm a fan of penicillin.

Other half and I did the same thing re properties, hate having to put in the will how you want to be "disposed" of - burial or crem.

Seem to remember it included savings / investments as well, remember the solicitor saying what we did is a legal way of making sure our Daughter gets the maximum benefit.

But that's life / death I guess.
