Wales speed limit

Looks like the 32 million pound spent on the 20 mph limit has been wasted. They are scrapping the limit now.

Yes and the "devolved" Welsh Government want more of our money.

I pay a fair bit of tax but they still leave me enough for a 5 day tent holiday once a year.

Few of those 20MPH things have sprung up around here.

If you follow someone though it they ignore it and stick to 30ish, if you slow down for it the driver behind will get right up your arse, or if on a bike just overtake.

Waste of time......

Wishful thinking.
This has been widely misrepresented in the English press.
There will not be a blanket reversal of the policy.
The actual proposal is that if they wish local councils will have the power to review the 20mph speed limits, and reviews should include consultation with local residents.
Hypothetical question: How many towns & villages do you think would actually want to to re-increase the speed limit in their own locality?
There are a very few places were 20 limits on arterial roads may return to 30mph, but these will prove to be rare rather than the norm.

hen they introduce this speed limit an the extra pollution that come with it, no one even considers all the extra CO2 around the people living there. I suppose the next thing will be a man with a red flag walking in front of the cars

It's worth remembering that local authorities in England now have the power to impose 20mph speed limits on all of their side roads without the legal procedures that they used to face.

And given the recent change at the top, it seems that everyone will also be able to build pretty much where they like.

Have to find somewhere to house all those additional people

There are many new 20mph limits around here but they are around the Schools. Exeter has altered many side streets to 20 mph and closed off the roads in other areas so residents have to make a 2 mile diversion to get onto the larger roads. I used to travel one route into Exeter but that has been closed down so all the traffic now drives through the small roads of the tiny terraced houses clogging those roads.
I dont mind the 20 limits where there are lots of children, Topsham has been 20 for many years now so most drivers changed their route into Exeter.
Some of it is crazy and a journey of 10 miles to Exeter at 8am takes 1 hour 20 minutes. A bicycle can do it in 30 minutes as there is a bicycle route most of the way.
In the new EV period coming soon, on cold wet days, i can see drivers running out of charge in these congested roads. The 2000 new houses going up in Exmouth have no direct route to Exeter but will travel through a single lane farm route to get to a main road. Built with no room for a School as the Council refused the free plot allocated for a School, Children will have to attend Exeter Schools as the ones in Exmouth already have too many children. Getting a little crowded around the outskirts now as the housing stretches out of the Town boundary. Lucky i no longer go to Exeter to work.

Do you honestly still think that a "new EV period is coming soon"?

Every tale about EVs, from short range to high cost to fires to battery cost to slave mining of lithium to failing in the cold to lack of home charging capacity.... EVERY data point shows that general replacement of IC with EV is a giant boondoggle of a dumpster fire.

You're an intelligent guy- how can there possibly be a path to success? Do you really think that the government can just magically make it happen by mandate?
