Insurance Moan Again...

Same company, different bike. Had a letter from WiserChoice this morning. Both my bigger bikes, 2000 Blackbird & '98 ZX-9R are insured with them.

Renewed the 'bird insurance last month. But they state 'We are unable to offer you a renewal quote for the ZX-9R'. Even sent me proof of my NCD!

No great loss, tbh. Had a few issues with renewing the 'bird. So, back to the comparison sites. BUT, legally speaking, do I have to say that I have been refused insurance when getting quotes? I'm guessing not. as they have 'been unable to offer', which is a different matter.
Oh, no claims or accidents, this letter just came out of the blue.

They just dont want to insure that model. I get this when i try and insure one of my modern bikes. Many companies seem to object to expensive bikes. Fickle lot picking and choosing

Well, 1998 aint that modern, nor expensive, £2k. Cheaper & older than the Blackbird.

Just spent a frustrating hour or so trying to contact them via their 'Live Chat' contact...

Do you have to tell them, I would say not if they haven't given a definite reason, like you were abusive when you did the Blackbird, and just said they declined to insure as many do. If of course you were abusive you will have bought it on yourself, but I hasten to add that doesn't seem likely to me.

No, certainly haven't been abusive - much as I feel like it. Bit difficult if you can't contact them directly.

Will have a look at sites - the 900's isn't due to the end of the month. I shall relax with some MoT prep for both...

From your experience of an hour trying to contact them I'd be looking for better customer service elsewhere even if it does cost a bit more.

You could try Peter James - a ZX9 should be considered 'classic' by now, the Bird too probably. That way you can have cheap, agreed value insurance and a very low excess.

I've done this for many years. The only disadvantage is you don't accrue no claims bonus but when I insured my 2018 bike with zero no claims it was only £140 anyway.

Bru - try these, been looking around for KH 400 insurance which is not due for a couple of months, gave me a very favourable quote.

Worth a try yes it is just another comparison site.

Who needs a signature anyway......

There may be a higher accident risk on the Kawasaki.
Insurers do have all the details of what vehicle collides most.
One of my boys used to buy the large Jaguar V8s when he was aged 20 as the quote was the same as a Ford Escort 1.3 back then. Jaguar cover is still very low compared to a BMW. A different style of driver.
Back in 1971, my Brother aged 19 also drove a Jaguar S type which was a lower premium than my 998 cc Cooper

I know nothing about British insurance except what I read here, but didn't Peter used to have a cousin "Footman James" that used to insure everyone?

Maybe he got promoted to Butler ....

Footman James was a leading insurer once. Policies were just too high as they traded on old history. Once there was more competition, they are not getting so much business. I never ask for a quote from FJ now as i know it will be 50 percent more than others. They do not appear at shows now like they used too.

Footman James was originally a pertnership between Messrs Footman and James. Peter James then became the sole owner of the company but did not change the name. Some years later he sold the company. As part of the deal I understand he was not permitted to trade as an insurance broker. This is normal business practice.

Upon the expiry of that agreement period Peter James launched Peter James Insurance. Some years ago he sold Peter James Insurance and I guess he is now retired.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.
