Mike - you are as young as you feel, today I feel 30 again, few weeks ago I felt about 70

Ha, ha. Seventy eight next month, keep it to yourself, BUT here is an eighteen year old idiot constantly trying to break out...and he often succeeds. LOL.

Thats great David, i have around 17 of them including the Great grandchildren. 4 of them got onto 2 wheel engines but now in cars. Had some good fun with them as they grow up and another is due in October. The one year old is now walking, or running more like. There has been a toy box in the living room for about 30 years so far. Problem is that the one year old likes to view the big yellow bird all the time on youtube. In the car, he watches on the i-phone of course.

I have no I-phone either but the parents have some. All the small kids are using these phones now to watch videos. Bought the 1 year old a red talking Elmo with moving arms and legs etc. Put it beside the TV as he watched these puppets then put the toy elmo in front of him. Immediately, he tried to look behind the TV to see how elmo got out.
This little one has some form of hearing loss and managed to get a sensor attached to his head which by passes the ear parts. I hope it works as his speech is slow developing. He has said a few words like mum and dad but no conversation yet as he nears 2 years

One thing I am now seeing, regretfully, is small children walking along speaking on their phones and gesturing to their mates that they cant speak now as they are on the phone. I wonder where they picked that up from.

I was at least 7 before I had any access to technology and that was a birthday present of a 1/6d gyroscope which absolutely fascinated me. I still remember the gyroscope when I'm out on the bikes as the spinning wheels must have a similar effect. My next favourite toy was a tennis ball which I kicked the mile and a half to school and back every day.

(Okay, okay I know, I was lucky......)

It's tragic Mike - neither of us able to go anywhere. A good example of true deprivation and yet you'll never hear either of us complain.

The difference between our generation and the current one is not degrees of deprivation as we knew it, but their sense of entitlement. They feel,that they are entitled to have anything and everything that they want. If we did not have something we learned to work to achieve or pay for our wants.

The fact that parents and grandparents actually DO give children anything and everything they want MAY HAVE something to do with the fact that the kids think they should have anything and everything they want.

Our fault, not theirs.
