What makes 'em posh?

Most rockers had leather jackets. They look like rocker bikes, too.

Barbour jacket? Shirt and ties? (Although from what I can tell from old photos, even working men wore ties with their overalls in those days.)

Haircuts? (Haircuts were only 25 cents back then).

More cultural and history education for me.

Still have my Belstaff Trialsmaster jacket over 60 years old it had mould all over it enquired about sending it of to be cleaned and re waxed and thought not paying that..I was about to throw it out and Maz said I'll bung it in the washing machine which she did and its come out really clean and good looking still has the badges that I sewed on I sprayed it with a wax. There's a bit of wear here and there but looking great Graham has his eyes on it for his marshaling..

My Dad used to wear a tie and shirt, even on the beach and quite often a jacket too.

True here for people born before WW I.

My Grandad wore a tie every day until he died in 1998.

I had to wear a tie sitting on the beach when I was 5 years old. My god I miss my dad....not.

My Dad was a tough, but fair man, he did his best for me and my 2 brothers, even if at times it did not feel like it - a man cant do more than that.

I can remember at Dads funeral a lot of people said he was a "private" man - never one to really share his thoughts or burdens, I am a lot like him in that respect.

In later years he was my best mate, remembered every day.

Was also keen on motorcycles

Who needs a signature anyway......

Both mine were great, we never had much money so usually we, as kids, had small presents but never noticed or resented it. When I was approaching 21 my friends were getting expensive presents like radio grams, one even got a car. I could see the concern on my Parents faces and the relief when I said I only wanted a signet (?) ring with a non-precious black stone. I still wear that ring today, my mates presents have long gone - probably not even a memory. Dad only ever smacked me, on the leg, once and boy did I deserve it. If I could go back to that day I would smack myself!

My Dad was an insurance agent for many years as well as a hotel owner. His advise to us 6 offspring was to start work as young as possible and aim to buy a house. All 6 of us managed to buy houses and all worked at well paid jobs. He had some good advise. We had not much money due to 6 children in the house and 1 week holiday a year to Pontins. It was a good childhood though.

You lot were lucky No dad a brother in a sanatorium my sister left home an married so just Mum on a widows pension things looked better when I got a job £7.0.0. a week But paid monthly so had to open a bank account..
