Boys new car

The youngest one came around today with a new toy.
He normally plays with Cosworth engined cars but this time, he was going to buy an Audi V8 RS5 but having studied engine failures due to a timing chain wearing on many of them, he went different.
A Vauxhall Monaro 5.7 litre Chevrolet Corvette 400 BHP engine fitted. A simple pushrod all alloy V8.
Pretty rare car usually sold in Australia as a Holden. Quite a lot of beer tokens for this one.
He has had to order service parts from the USA as none available in the UK.
Lucky he is a car mechanic

Sounds like a dragster pulling away Andy. Simple engine and no cam chains or belts to cause problems.
It had been laid up for 6 Months in Birmingham. When nearly home, the clutch slave cylinder failed but drove on matching the gears as it was very close to his house. Thats a gearbox out job and took 3 hours work. The car will be for weekends and car shows as he drives a diesel Mondeo to work.
I drove a Lincoln 4 litre V8 last time i was in Florida but that was an auto box and tame.
The Monaro is a large car but just 2 doors. Great big leather seats to suit the larger people.
Import charges for the parts including a new clutch were round £300. Thats about what the parts cost so its a bit pricey importing from the USA now. Parts are generally low priced as they are common in the USA.

Yes, they were Holdens but this one is badged Vauxhall. Not sure where it was made but registered here about 2006. A few were imported from Aus and 1 was used on Top gear racing against some small Peugeots which are not quite as fast on the track.
They were sold as Vauxhall Monaro VXRs in the UK.
As far as i know, Vauxhall UK did not build any here and there are no Vauxhall parts in the UK that fit it.

Real Holdens have empty beer bottles in the rear footwell.

Well, looking at the size of the fuel tank, the car is a big drinker. Large boot but most of the space is taken up by the tank.

Well I hope its not him who drives past my place revs the nuts off it as soon as he gets to my drive.. definitely a V8...

A chum ran a Holden-badged Holden for a few years. He loved it, but the fuel consumption was catastrophic.

Yes Martin, just like the orange one in the wikipedia but his is fire engine red. These cars often sell at £20,000 but the seller needed to move it on and it ended up at £10,000 for the boy. It needed a little work but its all done and running well now.
