But I know how much the vendor wants.

Rotax motor is supposed ot be good.

Who needs a signature anyway......

IIRC Rotax bits are spendy & I have a vague recollection that these broke the frame, which was basically an ETZ251 item. That might have just been the early versions that looked like an ETZ251, though. For me that has already gone above what I would be interested in "investing" - not a model that has ever come up on my radar.

I am going to the MZRC AGM this weekend (for once it is local-ish) - could ask around if there are any Rotax engined bikes present to find out more "foibles" from the owners if that would help ?

Think bidding ends at the weekend Nigel, parts seem to be hard to get hold of as not many of them made.

Keeping an eye open for a decent 301, the one I had was brilliant, should never have sold it.

There is a Wilf Green 301 on E-Bay at the moment, but it is to far away, and I believe that pistons for the Wilf Green conversion are very hard / nigh on impossible to get hold of.

Who needs a signature anyway......

IIRC the Wilf Green 300s used a Mahle piston that was used in a much overbored 250 cylinder & only came in one overbore size. Piston life in the ETZ250/251 seems (anecdotally) to be long, so maybe not so much of an issue - unless you have a problem (lube failure or other seizure).

No idea of availabilty - guess it depends in part if it was a "standard" Mahle piston or a "special" made for WG.

I had several supa 5s loved them, bought a 301 and it used more fuel than my diesel Merc van.

My last one was a Supa 5 but I found it to small, the ETZs are a nice fit.

Being a fan of Kawasaki 2 stroke triples I am used to stupid fuel consumption !!

Make damn sure the electric start & its sprag clutch are in excellent working order = those Rotax engines can be an absolute f***ing nightmare to kickstart.
Carburation can be problematic, but I see this has an ugrade which may (or may not) have solved the problems.
I speak from experience, although of the Matchless G80 version!

Think I will give it the swerve, came accross one or two articles that mentioned starting issues.

Think I am at that time of life where I dont want to be buying more problems.

Quite so, Will. There have been two owners of the Matchless G80 Rotax in my AMC club section and both had no end of issues with the Sprag clutch and difficult kickstarting.

I like the look of the new Honda 350 single looks like an old bike I think the one sold in theUK is different to the Australian version .

Red ones are fastest.

Becoming common? My dealer has delivered around 160 of them since March! They planned for a good run of sales, expecting about 10 per month. At the moment there has been no falling off of orders. It is IMHO by far the best bike of its size and type on the market.

Of course red ones are fastest Mike. These bikes are going to be a really high seller mainly due to that price and immediate supply now. I guess a few large containers came in from the sea.

I'm thoroughly pleased for Tiumph with the success of the 400s It shows what can be done! But I wonder when Triumph will put the price up: before or after sales plateau?

And yes there is no doubt they will put the price up: its been their modus operandi for several years except for the few models that have not sold at all well (eg Speed Triple RR).

Original price was £4995 OTR when I bought mine. Price was increased to £5195 OTR in July.

Like others I have owned many bikes over the years of all capacities and nationalities, and I have to say that the Speed 400 is probably the best new bike I have bought. It does everything extremely well, and acts like a traditional single at low speeds and then like a twin when you give it some throttle. A most impressive machine.

Looking at recent bike sales, a velo Viper 4.5k Matchless/ajs 350s around 2.5k. Venom 5.5k and these are riding bikes needing no work.
