AI Data Centres and Greenhouse gases O/T

Was idly reading some stuff on the web today about the phenonemal power demands of Data Centres and the amount of power that AI needs, the numbers were huge, yet nothing ever gets said about it.

Yet we are all being encouraged / forced to move over to E Vehicles, but these Data Centres keep proliferating, and the use of AI keeps growing.

Something not quite right........

Who needs a signature anyway......

There is data storage in Exmouth although i cannot find the building and no new ones built. The Council has published that the heat from the equipment will be heating the town swimming pool which was going to close due to heating costs. Now it is getting what must be 300 KW of energy minimum to heat that large pool. Looking at data centres all over the UK, they have massive cooling systems on the roofs chucking the heat out and adding chilled air to cool them.

Years ago, read something about the amount of power consumed by Data Centres with our everyday use of the 'net. Frightening.

The new giant wind turbines are going to be spectacular. I saw some blades in Belfast being checked over last June. They have to move around by ship as no lorry would be long enough

Then there's Bitcoin mining usage:-

"Estimates showed that, in 2023, dedicated mining companies with highly efficient setups would consume about 155,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity to mine one Bitcoin. The average energy consumed for one Bitcoin transaction is 851.77 kWh, equivalent to about a month of electricity for the average US household."

Spaghetti trees in Italy are in danger of dying due to lack of rain due to climate change.

Maybe I should be more public spirited, but at 79 and without grandchildren I have little interest or influence in saving the world from pollution, Trump, winter fuel allowance, Gaza, immigrants, train drivers' pay, Katie Price's bum job, Wigan Pier, crumbling school concrete or air fryers but just the NHS and potholes.

I got grandchildren, I do care about what kind of world they will deal with.

I try to do my part to keep things going right on the part of the world I can reach, but the main thing is to equip them (mentally, spiritually, and physically) to deal with the world we leave them.

Homeschooling the grandkids, serving on the county Electoral Board, local Republican committee, the local Militia, local Disaster Relief group .... it's better than just moaning about it all.

Leon, the spaghetti on the trees shortage is due to Heinz now growing the stuff right into the can so no soil is needed. Once its a foot long it gets bent around and turned down before the lid goes on. This is true and they have 57 varieties to show you.

I do care Lannis and feel great satisfaction in offsetting the pollution from others' use of the latest 'must have' electronic gizmos from China, cheap 'disposable' clothes from Bangladeshi sweat shops, the vehicle emissions from gas guzzlers doing two mile school runs, Lithium mining, BBQ's, wood burners, plus politicians' and celebrities' jollies in private jets, by conscientiously recycling my margarine tubs, milk bottles and corn flakes boxes.

Yebbut, recycling my yogurt pot is the least I can do to keep the U.K's percentage of global emissions at 1.4% and save mankind from extinction. I pity those who suffer far greater trauma in deciding where to dispose of their bubble wrap or cooking oil.
BTW - it'll upset Jerry even more that the Gov't is currently considering imposing an environmental disposal tax on cremations within the ULEZ.

I read somewhere that our perceentage of emissions was 0.04%.

Offsets the wars in Ukraine,Israel/palestine, Chinese and Indian coal fired industry, Musk space toys et al.
I am so glad us Brits can save the world while being conned and taxed to death.

I always wonder, New Years Eve in the ULEZ area, how the Mayor encourages all those fireworks and the huge number of jets flying over Buckingham palace for a Birthday treat so the little Royals can enjoy it more.
