KTM in trouble - still - again......

Austria factory closed, 300 sacked according to report a couple of days ago.
Quality problems and over production blamed.

I know a workmate had one a few years ago and it had quite a few problems. To solve it, he bought a Honda.

They do have an unfortunate reputation. Bad news spreads further and faster than good news. However my KTM has been absolutely fine (just crossing my fingers I'm not tempting fate).

I'm amazed they hadn't learned from other peoples mistakes and went ahead & bought a majority shareholding in that world champion money pit MV Agusta.

I suspect long term KTM will survive because they are owned by Pierer who in turn are largely owned by the large prosperous Indian industrial giant Baja

Trying to manufacture in Europe with increasingly deadening green regulations and rocketing electricity costs, reacting inappropriately to the Wu-Flu hysteria, and trading production capacity for quality problems by moving to China.... I'm not surprised they need $100M to stay afloat.

I've never been tempted for one since John Penton was using their motors for his brand ....

A friend of mine had an RC8 orange racey thing. It was incredibly fast, and as he was an excellent, police trained, rider I didn't see a lot of it on the road but it was nice when I saw it parked after I'd arrived wherever we were going twenty minutes later!

He had quite a few technical issues, fixes and aftermarket improvements. It all left me cold - I'd hate to be forever fixing a brand new motorcycle.

I guess I am not willing to pay an extra dime or an extra hour in the shop for world record ass-kicking high performance bike bragging rights...

I've never ridden like that and never will, now. Ninety horsepower and 110 mph capability will do me until I shuffle off of this mortal coil.

Buying anything more than that is a complete waste.

But Lannis, have you still got your Stelvio - that's a proper powerful beast as I recall and mine had the unnecessary bit of character with the random oil warning light!! Eek!

Things have changed since Kurt Nicol rode for them and later became their director of racing from 1998 to 2009, KTM were making championship winning motocross bikes back then

Just watching the news and it looks like Vauxhall at Luton are going down the pan - some of it is put down to the unrealistic plans and falling demand for EVs.

Who needs a signature anyway......

It's reported that 1100 jobs will go at their Luton plant as the weakening market for EV's means they won't be able to meet Gov't regs for the percentage of EV sales vs ICE so would face fines. ICE vehicle production will be transferred to their plant in France.
A couple of major Lithium battery plants have also closed due to demand falling far short of expectations.
Never mind, at least Jerry's ULEZ payments will go some way to keep the economy going.

Jaguar will go broke soon. Not making any ICE cars at all now so only EV that no one wants. I notice D and C police have bought a fleet of diesel Peugeots this time around while many forces are buying Toyota hybrid estates so at least they can get home after a shift.
I wonder if they have worked out that police cars will not be able to chase cars if they have to use EVs ? Any hard use of an EV sets off a warning and powers down to protect the battery.
In Londonistan, now the peasants cannot drive their Ford Escorts in the city, The Mayor is fitting a dome over the top of the City to keep all his clean air inside.
It is interesting how these EVs progress. They do have 4 chargers in Exmouth now and another 4 with no wiring. Reading real drivers use of EVs, most go back to engine due to all the waiting to charge and the ridiculous trade in price of any 3 year old car. No one wants to make them now except the Indian Jaguar Company who have committed to no ICE cars. Me, i am sticking with hybrid for now but of course, i cannot save money as the damn things cost about 5 k more for the battery ones. I like it but it will lose about 24k in 3 years use, maybe more.

It looks bad, I know, but the 100 HP Stelvio and the 130 HP Triumph were bought 14 and 8 years ago respectively, and together have 100,000 miles of two-up transcontinental touring on them.

My hooligan days are long past, if they ever really existed..... The last bike I bought was 3 years ago... 300 pounds and 19 HP. It's the new me.

I do have a beard.

I've considered a ponytail or braid since I still have hair and they look cool on the right guy. But I've seen a couple guys with my build, coloring, and features with braided long hair, and it was pretty bad.

I've got literally hundreds of badges and patches from 55 years of rallies, events, and riding, but never could bring myself to poke a hole in my leathers, so they're all in a drawer for the grandchildren to play with ...
