That'll have the phone anoraks & rivet counters foaming at the mouth.
The cable should be cloth covered.
And although they may appreciate the period-correct woodchip wallpaper patterned anaglypta would be preferable.

Just changed my mobile for a new one
I had to get my kids to set it up as Tesco say they don't do it anymore though there advert on TV says they do..

The real old ones had letters and numbers.

And ours had a chrome button on the top as we had a 'party line'. If the other party was on the phone when we pressed it we could listen to their conversation.

Terrible idea those were. Saved money I suppose. One of my wife's favourite films was based on one of those, Doris Day and I Believe Cary Grant, "Pillow Talk" ?

We didn't have the switching technology in the 50s to give everyone their own phone line. Like total-loss oiling systems, party lines were just how it worked until they invented something better....

That was my first thought too! But it was good to know that I'm not alone in still having wood chip in three of my rooms (painted with magnolia emulsion obviously).

I have painted over woodchip in my living room and my 1928 phone has the maroon cotton covered wire.

Recently I was amazed to see old style maroon cloth covered cable for sale. It was in a specialist lighting shop for use on antique light fittings. I guess under the cloth it was modern insulated colour coded 2 and/or 3 core.

My place has the old anaglipta finished walls and peeled ceiling stops the place echoing.. and with all our antique furniture not everyone's tastes but don't care I'm happy I did fork out for a modern walk in shower with a folding seat also handrails a bugger when you get old.do have an old bakerlite phone in the loft somewhere..
The Ariel is in the conservatory with a lateseventeen hundreds oak&walnut settle.

I remember Woodie turning up at that pub opposite Kempton park once. with him, he had a model of an old Post Office red phone box. Inside was his mobile phone.
