Reminder of the past

I have just come back in from turning up some aluminium parts for the KH Spannies, and as I walked back from the shed to the back door I heard a couple of 2 strokes buzzing down the road.

Took me right back to those nights in my youth when I would often go out on bitterly cold evenings on my FS1E to visit old school friends.

I thought to myself perhaps I was hearing the next generation of bikers, or perhaps it was just some county lines drug runners, or kids that will just go onto cars when they are old enough.

Either way it brought back memories, there was even a waft of 2t smoke before I went inside.

I love the smell of 2T wafting through the air.....happy daze as they say......

Who needs a signature anyway......

Most of my teenaged two smoke riding buddies went to cars and never looked back; I don't hold it against them. People ride what they can afford; it takes a true motorcyclist to keep riding a bike even when you can afford a car.

Of the 10 or so guys I used to ride with when I was 16 - 18 years old, none of them ride any more. Half of them have passed on, the other half think I'm crazy ....

There is literally only a half a dozen or so people I still see from my youth / early riding days.

Most of the people I knew in the past have just moved on.

Some of my work mates think I am slightly bonkers to still be riding and fettling bikes, not that I mind.

Who needs a signature anyway......

I live in the same area in which I grew up, so a lot of my contemporaries from the 4th grade (age 9) are still around.

None on bikes though.

I rode motorcycles until I was 81, the 2000 Royal Enfield Bullet was the last. Then I started to fall off it when it was stationary.

Think 2 people I knew from school are still into bikes.
Of the many I used to hang about with in my late teens & early 20's, most are dead - only one in a bike incident. There's one guy in NZ who still has MZ's. Another couple still have bikes (A10 & RE Crusader) in bits, which they have been for decades.
Even my son in law & grandson have given up bikes for the joys of hi performance cars.

My two schoolmates still around all well into our eighties none ride anymore
