Amazing to think that within my lifetime, BSA were the largest motor vehicle manufacturer in the world.

Shame they couldn't change and adapt to a changing market. In retrospect, both the management and the unions come across as stupid and shortsighted, and shot their collective selves right in the foot.

Velocette tried to read the market and produced a bike that no wellard rider would be seen dead on,er or off.

The most stoned out of his mind hippie in England couldn't have dreamed up the "Ariel 3" shopping cart as The New Way Forward for the mighty BSA .... but it happened anyway. Died with a whimper.

The downfall of BSA was caused by the unions that came out on strike just before the selling season in the USA, nothing got exported in time. I was in the business at the time and remember it well, if it wasn’t the BSA workers it was the dockers.

That is an over simplistic view of the cause of the BSA collapse.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

Absolutely correct, if you ignore the politicians and the backhanders with their industrial mates...
As for the dockers, again the powers colluding to continue the already illegal practice of casual labour.
