Motorcycle noticeboards

Just wondering what others think, but the Motorcycle noticeboards I frequent seem to have undergone a marked decline in postings over the last 18 months or so.

At least one of them puts that down to Facebook, another one of the more technical ones - Kawasaki KTOG that most technical subjects have been discussed and for anyone interested all they have to do is search the noticeboard.

Guess times change, don't think I will ever do Facebook as I just cannot grasp it - Mike I might give you a shout about that one day.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Message me when you want to try it. I have my own FB group for motorcycles and motorcycling. The secret to FB is to be selective about groups that you join, and to restrict who can read your personal details on your own home page. I await your call.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

I'm having troubles with FB now I think META has taken it over I'm getting swamped with other FB groups.i deleted and blocked over thirty this morning..

The trouble with much of this on line stuff, they need so much personal information that I think one becomes an easy target for hackers and scammers.

Simple solution = don't give them your personal info.

On most social media sites only the bare minimum info is required/compulsory to join/participate. Probably only a valid email address, and if your cunning you have one just for social media that you don't use for anything important like banking.

And I'll let you into a little secret.......when it comes to other personal info they might ask for (like home address, date of birth, inside leg measurement etc) they don't actually check to see if your telling the truth.

"groups that you join" is only a small part of what FB noses into. Biggest problem with FB is, when you join, you give it access to anything you search online for, its algorithms use that to bombard you with any connected group. As TUD posted:-

FB doesn't actually require much personal information; as I say, most of the shit you get after you sign up is based on what you search for online. And it's only going to get worse - t'other day, World President Trump summoned Zuckerberg, told him, as he (Trump) "believes in free speech",

FB has to use the same fact-checking algorithms as Twitter/X ...

Possibly something like the DuckDuckGo search would fool FB, but there are disadvantages to DuckDuckGo.

Best thing I've found with FB is let the missus sign up for it on her laptop, scroll through the returned crap when you're drinking coffee/tea and the brain's in neutral ...

That said, if FB suddenly closed tomorrow, there is one solitary poster I'd miss - "Seager Engineering" - their fixes for bodged old-vehicle bits are astounding.

I have been on Facebook since it started never had any problems I was on the born in the 30s 40s was great then got American interest which spoiled it also on Ariel owners site that was very helpful and made good friends now sites I'm on are being hacked this has since I bought a new phone and obviously my information is out there somewhere being hacked so shutting down on sites..

Now, now, you can't go blaming EVERYTHING on Trump.

In England, of course, the government tells you over and over that they don't censor free speech.

However, if you claim that that's not true, they will censor you for disinformation.

I don't use Facebook for three reasons:

1) The amount of raw stupidity that swirls around FB will make anyone who experiences it a little stupider.

2) I don't have to use the "I have to use it because it's the only way I can stay in touch with my family" excuse. I didn't raise my family to be that distant and disrespectful. None of them use it as far as I know.

3) Mark Zuckerberg has 500 billion dollars because he is using, selling, and manipulating the data of every single FB user. If you think he's not monetizing YOUR data, you are very naive. And Zuckerberg is one of the worst enemies that Western civilization has got. Globalism, election manipulation, COVID and climate as control mechanisms, unlimited immigration.... I'm not paying for that. Why would you?

Does anyone know the webpage that deals exclusively in pre-war Nortons? My "favorite" to them got deleted and I don't remember the name. Seems like 2 men ran it, one in England the other in the Netherlands iirc.

Any of this ring a bell?

Facebook easy to access I use it for getting in touch with distant family and friends also What's Ap.. those who don't like don't use it properly .. the trouble I'm having is just got a new phone and different supplier ..when your unable to move around and sit in a chair all day it's somthing I can do ...This morning posted a message on my old school site and had an instant reply from one of my teachers son that's over many years ago ..
