A funny thing happened

Sitting in my electric reclining chair watching TV and suddenly the TV failed, tried to raise the seat from the flat position and its no longer working so i was stuck and needed lifting off.
The chair mechanism had bitten into a 230 volt cord to the heating unit and knocked the ring main off.
Just beware of the reclining chair if home alone

Tonight, i will be very careful in my electric operated bed

Also, it's a good idea not to buy an electrically heated water bed.

Also, do not try and get out of one of those chairs unless it is fully retracted. My wife had the whole caboodle fall on top of her when she failed to do this. Oh how we laughed.

Mine does that David, if the leg support is out and you try and get off it, the chair follows you and pins you to the floor. It is funny though.

They still use something functionally similar in some USA states, but for other purposes.

I did think of that Bill as i sat on the steel based chair and a frayed 230volt wire in the mechanism.
Naturally, i have residual current device on every individual circuit. Effectively i have 14 earth trips for the house and a devise to take out any spikes when someone begins charging an EV vehicle or any other power surge. The very latest consumer unit fitted in 2024 to replace the one i fitted in 2016 which was a split RCD board.
New ones have to be metal cased now and not plastic. No need to keep replacing these boards though and in all my career fitting plastic cased units, i only found 2 that burnt. One did burn the entire house down in Lympstone but very rare
