Portable solder pot

Hi All,

Knowing some of you make your own control cables, someone linked this solder pot on TriumphRat.Net Available on Ebay and Amazon too but AliExpress appears to be the cheapest.

Cant believe that price. it would cost more to ship it which I note is free. Is it a scam?

Was a bit odd - Google found it originally at £7 but when I clicked on it, it came up at that price. If you're interested but worried that might be a scam, as I say, they're on Ebay and Amazon.

Mine's a 1 cup s/s teapot.
When I visited JJ Cables at their old place, they were using a Morrisons s/s curry dish. That earned them serious credibillity in my eyes.

Ask yourself - do you feel lucky ?

When it comes to "direct from China" electrical items most are not UK legal as supplied as, most likley, it will have a US or EU plug fitted and have no independant safety certification.

Same basic item on Ebay for £7-8 delivered, but all with EU plugs. It will most likley have a "China Export" logo, but very unlikley it actually has had any form of safety testing.

Chinese supplier Vevor has stopped importing electrical goods to the UK after repeated electrical faults found on items sent for testing for safety and compliance with UK regs. Even when supposedly UK standard plugs fitted, most plugs were not compliant. Other items had serious issues such as no earth connections to metal chassis, or earth "connections" made to painted surfaces. So many items reported to Trading Standards that Vevor shipments were impounded at port of entry and most rejected. They chose to stop importing electrical items rather than make them compliant - which should be a big "Red Flag" WRT their interest in supplying safe items.

So - how lucky do you feel ? A £3 electrical item that burns your house down or kills you isn't much of a bargain in my eyes, but other opinions are available.

that solder pot seems to have an AUSTRALIAN 3PIN plug which MAYcomply with our 240 volt power

Talking Chinese stuff, I bought some 1" up and 1" back handlebar risers for the bars on my Speedmaster, bought them from Motone, so not cheap.

There was a thread on one of the Triumph forums I frequent where someone bought "same" from Ali Express or whatever it is called - Chinese made and around the £30 mark.

Call me what you like but would you rather put your life in the hands of a well made item, or one from Ali Express just because it is cheaper?

Who needs a signature anyway......

My brother bought a cheap Chinese MIG welder for a quick job & then stripped and rebuilt it to proper safety & wiring standards, including getting L & N around the right way. Fortunately, he's time served and spent 35 years running electrical plant maintenance.
He even threw the supplied gasless welding wire out as it was EN1APb type material so just fizzed when passing current.
