Brooklands

The other half and a couple of friends of ours went there yesterday for the Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle day - loved it.

The air was full of the smell of burnt castor oil, some great old vintage bikes being put through their paces up the "Test Hill" only one mishap when a vintage car did not make it to the top and overturned when it ran back down the hill - driver escaped with a cracked rib, and a hefty repair bill !

My shirt still stinks of castor oil today, so guess it will have to go in the wash

A great day out even if a long way to go.

Who needs a signature anyway......

It's certainly worth a visit I used to go regularly though was some time ago before Mercedes took it over

We visited the Mercedes building a few hundred yards away - more geared to selling Mersc than anything, but they had some interesting F1 exhibits there.

Tried my hand on an F1 simulator - dont ask !!

Agree Broklands is well worth a visit.

Mercedes probably saved Brooklands from predatory property developers.

No Will it was people like me that joined the Brookland society many years ago and gave them funds to fight the developers. It was bloody close but people power won in the end.

I stand corrected. I remember the campaign but thought they'd only managed to get certain parts of the site protected status but didn't own it. At least no one will build another industrial estate on the remaining open space.

Wiscombe hillclimb in East Devon is good on old car and bike days. Seen some big prangs on that one

Remember reading a WW1 pilots recollections of the side effects of castor oil inhalation - I'd wash that shirt asap
