Can you imagine you or anyone else (including the dealer) being able to fix any of that if it breaks? And adjusting the valves is a camshaft-out job.

I rode one at a dealer demo day, and it's a lovely ride, but owning one would be like keeping an Italian supermodel girlfriend in a Rome terrace apartment, with a Lancia and a platinum credit card ....

As so often in recent years, Guzzi have looked at BMW and thought, "We can make a mint too with bikes that no-one will ever be able to touch themselves."

This was why my 2008 Stelvio didn't last - great ride but the random oil light for 30 miles and the complexity of the LCD screen just seemed like asking for expensive trouble. Apparently they can go black in direct sunlight. Obviously they are a million pounds to replace if necessary. That's half the appeal of the Mille - relatively simple tech understandable by an idiot like me.

Technology is overtaking older peoples brains. My neighbour is about 64 and just got a new Ford Kuga. Its been used very little as he keeps using his 10 year old Kuga. reason is, he has been trying to understand the controls and just sits in the new car altering switches and dials. The Ford Kuga is really a Toyota Rav4 with a Ford shaped body.
I cannot work most of the electronics in my Toyota but the Kuga is even more difficult. His is a motability lease car so he needs to sell his old car or there was no point leasing another.
These lease cars are funded by DWP benefits and offers are often for great big giant cars no one wants and he fell into that trap of buying a large car just for 2 people. He had also leased the top of the range model with huge amounts of gadgets.

I wonder if that is an "AI" generated description?

There are quite a few items on E Bay now where it is clear that the descriptions were not typed manually, and when listing something you do get a chance for "AI" to generate a description.

I see also that when you do a Google search you sometimes get at the very top of the search "AI Overview" of what you have searched for.

Who needs a signature anyway......

The most annoying gadget on my last few cars is the collision avoidance that operates the brakes. Going around a slight bend, and a vehicle parked on the road, it will put the brakes on. If it happens to be a white van, it does it a lot more often.
Good system if you need it but a pain just driving around at 30mph in built up areas

It has been proved by proper mechanics that the new cars with stop start when in traffic have very short engine life Thank goodness we can turn the most of the gizmos off in the Skoda I mean who wants three ways of opening and shutting doors .and lane deviation I know I've just used the steering wheel

Not sure engine life is lower on stop start cars. My old Vauxhall is still running well with over 140,000 miles so far. Stop start cars also have an engine oil designed to work well with a cooler running engine. I like the idea and mine have been start stop cars for about 15 years now. Some have a separate battery for starting so 2 batteries in Volvos. One car that did have a premature battery failure was a UK built Nissan with battery failure at 18 months.
When buying my Toyota, i needed knobs for the heater and a radio i could alter with buttons on the wheel and an off switch.
The last Volvo was touch screen for everything and very difficult to work when driving as you needed to look away from the windscreen.
The controls on my cars are now my main thing to look at when buying.

The artical I read yesterday on the motoring news said why stop start it dosnt improve fuel consumption alsoheavy duty battery as you say a different oil but the mechanics say rubbish that's to get more money out of you .. very few stop start manufactured now the Volvo is now the most likely car to catch fire due to the batteries they use two types in the same package ..we are all being sold up the river also new cars are made of thinner steel to cut down weight but no good in a crash ..

No matter how good the oil or designers, it takes a lot of physical work to start and engine, and parts are going to wear prematurely.
That said, manufacturers want to sell new cars and bikes, and by definition these things come with gizmo's, and when the first owner puts his money down he is not the least concerned about future failing electronics, electrics, ring gear or anything else.
Then again, many used to worry about electric windows, climate control, automatic headlamps etc etc way back when, but such things are essential now.

I would say the starter is the component most likely to fail early - constant stopping / starting, although they may have upgraded stater motors.

I know what you mean. Two of my cars have none of those things and I drive them everywhere, but the rich spoiled modern Westerners who buy new cars don't mind paying for that stuff, because they have plenty of money and they love gadgets and comfort ... My wife is one of them, and I indulge her with her heated seats and auto-dimming lights.

I've already turned off the lane-changing stuff, and turning off the idle kill before we drive it again ....

I'd buy a 2025 copy of my 1990 Ford Festiva (a re-badged Mazda 121), roll-up windows and all, on a heartbeat ...

Many modern cars are started by the electric hybrid motor and have no starter motor. cars are definitely a lot lighter but the alloy bodied cars survive an accident a lot better than steel cars do. Trouble is, the alloy cars can be difficult to repair although outer panels are just bolted on.
The boys in the garage doing the car repairs and servicing now order very specific oils for each different car. Its not just chuck in 10/40 now.
Biggest engine failures are the Ford engines with wet cam belts breaking up right next to the oil pump and cuts the oil off. Most modern Fords have this so change at 60,000 miles max.
The older diesel Fords do 200,000 miles with ease and the diesel 2.1 Honda civic from about 2008 outlasts virtually all others. One of the boys uses one for deliveries so at 200,000 miles now. He runs it until it breaks but the current one just keeps going. All the boys maintain their own cars as they all trained in car repairs. Hence the youngest one buying a 5.4 litre Vauxhall Monaro beast.
My cars will never wear in my ownership of just about 23,000 miles that i do before a new one. Looking at old MOT history of my previous cars, the 2 Peugeot 2 litre diesels got to cover about 160,000 miles before scrapping. The Vauxhall with 2 litre diesel Alfa Romeo engine is still going at 140,000 miles so far.
One Chrysler voyager that was used for airport runs covered 300, 000 miles and had oil change about every 12 years at the boys garage. The owner supplied his own oil on that one.

Our ancient Volvo when sold over 200 000 miles on the clock things that needed replacing Discs and pads on the third set of pads Oil seal behind clutch so had a new clutch fitted same time two rear bootlidstruts cam belt and tyres always had hard wearing tyres like Khumo spare wheel never used original exhaust system three batteries Daylight lights switched off when I bought it thirty years back . Sad to see it go never used the heated seats air con topped up twice had every bill and paperwork done to the car .. sold to a chap in Derbyshire he had a proper service done by Graham and re spray dents removed all paid for .. I got four grand out of it the rest to Graham who arranged everything ..

Thats a good price Dave ,Most old Volvos are in the 1000 pound area now. My neighbour has one near 30 years old but intends to keep it. Just keeps going and used in his bricklaying jobs
