Out and about

Roadworks just outside town so big tailbacks for commuter traffic so many regulars use the route through Daves village of Woodbury. Again today, a speed camera van lurks behind a wall to catch all this extra traffic exceeding 30 mph downhill. I went over the Common and find the local volunteer force of 3 old men using a police issued camera. This one is on a bendy section with no pedestrians or housing so no possibility of causing any harm if you did 35 mph. Not even a pavement there and never seen anyone walk that narrow road. If those pensioners grass you up, no action is taken anyway but a letter comes to say they caught you.
Very difficult to speed across the small lanes of the Common as you may meet a car or lorry at any corner.
I did hit 2 very deep potholes but missed a lot. Then the rear wheel went over a small pebble and stepped out a little.
Interesting ride for sure and checked the rims on return. Some pothole mending going on but very hard to keep up with the damage.
Meanwhile, i have finished the painting of the black/white fuel tank and ready to fit. Also sold a spare tank and mudguard set at 360 pounds so have another 3 tanks and 6 mudguards to sell soon as clearing a lot of my large gathering of parts. I think the spare wheels will be over 200 pounds each then i have to sell about 500 quality spanners of all sizes some are large for old cars when people actually repaired their own.
I have equipped 3 Grandchildren with spanner sets and 2 twins have a lot of building and power tools now they have bought a house together.
Time to thin out the garage hoard. keep just enough to repair my bikes and the house.

Saw that on E Bay the other day, did not pay that much atention to it, but has E Bay made it mandatory that you have to use their delivery services ?

If they have then that's it for me selling stuff

I had a strange nessage from Facebook yesterday, apaarrently my account has been suspended due to inappropriate content.

If I try and log in now Facebook asks for me to take a short video "selfie" and upload it before I can go to the appeal stage - tried that video uploads and then nothing happens.

Ah well dont use Facebook that much so that is the end of that.

As for inappropriate content, all I have used Facebook for is family research, and a handfull of chats between the late Mr Mad, Jerry and a few others - really at a loss to understand what I have said that is "inappropriate".

Who needs a signature anyway......

Ebay will not allow me to post any new items by Royal Mail so when my stamps run out. I quit those sales. I dont mind using there service for parcels so will continue with larger items.
I sold the tank and mudguards on private messaging on a bike site and its gone to Scotland. I have about 2k worth of bits to sell in the garage one piece at a time.
Bike parts prices have dropped and i notice i cam get a twin carb cylinder head at 100 pounds now and they used to be over 200 pounds.
A parts dealer locally bought a huge quantity of Triumph parts and built a new storage unit. He now finds he has fewer buyers so dropping prices. He does have keen pricing and i did buy a new head for the Triumph which is now fitted.
Selling on ebay as a private seller, you are now having to give your N.I number which they forward to Inland revenue is you sell more than 1.8 K of goods. You may not get taxed if its your old junk but if selling gear you buy in, it will get you a tax bill. I have not given my number but have been told i will be stopped selling very soon. I just hope i can clear the new parts i have before getting cut off. They are only parts i sell at 4 pounds but i sell a lot of them.

giving the staff at ebay such things as NI number is definitely a security risk sureley? who knows who their staff are or where?

Is it even legal? ebay seem to be overstepping the mark perhaps it will the end of them? Sod all to do with them how much you sell, it is a selling site after all. Maybe its a inland revenue spy. Anyone seen that you tube clip of some dumb cop trying to arrest a guy for carrying a 1000£ cash?

Guy was likely going to pay his electric bill or the like.

Maybe its time for us Anglos to do some free style shopping.

It's currently illegal to have more than £1000 in cash on you without a plausible explanation and I think a police officer may confiscate it if you can't explain why you have it.

Banks are very excited about this. A year or two back I withdrew £8k in cash to pay for a vintage bike I intended to drive up to see and possibly collect on the spot. I changed my mind (surprise, surprise eh?!) and went to pay it back in the next day only to be met with a barrage of questions about where I got it from.

The cashier told me that if she wasn't satisfied with my answers she could refuse to accept my deposit. I think she may have been required to report it too but I'm not sure about that.

It all seemed a bit much but I suppose it also exposes the level of problems with money-laundering which, I understand, the UK might be a European leader in! I did explain that I'd got it from a bank quite like hers... These days I might be tempted to say I'd made it from doing a few haircuts, honest guv, innit!

I bought a car privately with 6k 2 years ago in cash. 20 years ago, i went to a Peugeot dealer to buy a 1 year old car and agreed a discount if i pay cash. I went home and got the cash then he said he didnt think i was really going to pay cash so had to take the cash back to the bank and pay by card. It was a good deal on a low mileage car for Mrs bonnie and she kept it until retirement. That car had never had pump fuel when we had it. It ran very well on heating gas oil for 40,000 miles.
