glue

Hello everyone, my latest project had to have the seat bolts ground off.Now I am trying to make a way of retaining the seat.I need to bond the metal bit to the plastic seat base...and yes, I did fail "O" level metalwork! Any suggestions for glues?

Andy, they were there as a key for the glue! Now I am thinking to glue and pop rivet...

Personally, I wouldn't use more than 5 rivets, as the holes could be too close together in the plastic mudguard. But IKBA.

I tend to use stainless self tapping screws and washers for nailing sheet metal parts together. Normally works very well

Ask 3M for a sample of the glue they supply for just such an occasion. It's very common in auto and aerospace to glue things together now.
If they won't supply a sample, they should suggest someone local who can help.

Lotus and Morgan have been gluing cars together for a long time. I would just screw it with large washers for a low loaded job

m12 bolts with nylocks , 12.9 grade , use sticky back plastic to cover , if they are noticeable

1972? I was repairing the bonnet of an E-Type Jag track car & was flumoxed to find that the bracing bar was not welded, but glued. It was a factory replacement bonnet fitted after a previous shunt. I asked & was told that very early ones were spot welded but filling the dimples caused was a very labour intensive job, so they went to glue. Apparently, sometimes the bracing wasn't a 100% fit so they were glued and spot welded at each end.
Did you know that to replace a front wing on a "Mars Bar" Vauxhall Viva you had you remove the door & that added quite a bit of time & cost?
Same logic means that to remove and clean the oil tank on an A65, you have to dismantle the back end of the bike! That's why I use oil filters.

HA was rusty and poorly made, HB was better, more stylish but still rusted, and HC was a good car all round. Followed by the Firenza, Magnum, etc which were good cars. GM learnt, in the end.
