Speed camera.

That one on the dual carriageway last week did get me at 49mph in a 40mph section. I now know it has a camera each end to catch motorcycle number plates. Now i have to tell them it was me riding before i know the action. The photo will look funny as i had a jacket which said, Triumph, the worlds fastest motorcycle in a giant patch.
I am taking precautions against any further cameras, Just ordering a new numberplate with slightly different numbers. The fine is lower for a numberplate offence and no points. Worth a try.
That makes it 2 speeding catches in 55 years so not much of a problem at age 72.

I've heard that clear plastic wrap, like Gladwrap, on the plate can cause illegible reflections.
Not that I would do such a thing.

the answer is to fit a push bike carrier , complete with 2 mountain bikes and obscuring your number plate , perfect on a triumph
Geoff , you have the number plate (lettering) wrong, its the proverbial £100 and no points for a dirty (mud) or obscured (bike rack) offence , but I think you will find it a week in the stocks/deportation , for incorrect letterings , ie perverting the law

My only speeding fine was 70 years ago apparently doing 70mph in a 30 area at Hinkley on the way to Mallory Park on a rigid 350 AJS...I think not it would just about do 65 whith me aboard Caught by a speed cop on an Enfield Constellation fined a tenner and red licence book stamped ..

These cameras are on many narrow B roads around here in areas with no housing or schools. What i would call safe roads but many have the old 30 mph limits set a long time ago and this is where most are sat waiting. Every local ride i do, i see one.
Maybe and old black bag might blow up off the road and catch up in the numberplate bracket. I might have one in the garage i can shape so it obscures most of the number.
Its just a nuisance having to send them all the info and what happens next. Maybe a course or fine. The dual carriageway i was caught on is a money maker. Being a long straight road with no housing for a mile from the roundabout and a short section is 40 becoming 70 , 500 yards off the roundabout.I think this area has more cameras than anywhere now. Devon and Cornwall now have the award of the largest rising crime rate in the whole Country and they have now decided the new police station will not be built due to the bats nesting in the one they want to knock down. No police in Town at all and the money laundering shops are increasing weekly. 2 have a forced closure so far so the deals are done in the car park behind the shop.

I was only joking by the way Geoff.

I have been caught speeding once, and since have bene very careful, some of the places where mobile cameras around here place themselves is very sneaky, but having said that, they are mostly in 30 / 40 limits, so no defence if you get caught.

Some years after I attended a speed awareness course for doing 49 in a 40 limit, the limit on that stretch of road was upped to 50 mph.

Got done for speeding again.......on his way home from the course.

Got caught about 18 months ago, my first speeding fine since 1988, apparently doing 37 in a 30 limit on my 350 AJS. The particular bit of road had multiple changes of limit speed over about a mile or so. Got photographed by a camera van, which I had seen. I genuinely didn't think that I was speeding at that point, so I decided to question the fine.

Ticket showed the rear numberplate of my bike, but no indication of where I was relation on the road location of the speed limit signs.
So I asked exactly where the photoo was taken, and while I was at it, asked for evidence that the camera had been calibrated that morning.

Still no joy, so asked for calibration certificate (by now I was feeling a bit bolshie), which they sent me. Then I asked for exact co-ordidates of where the van was the camera van was sited.

By the time all this was going on, I knew that I was out of the time limit for doing a speed awareness course and therefore would have to pay the full fine plus 3 points. But at this point, they were also getting a bit peeved, so they phoned me up. A very nice lady said that if I still felt strongly about it, I should have to attend court and argue my point. I told her, who were they going to believe, me or the camera - certainly not me.

To cut a long story a bit short, she agreed I could do the course, and wouldn't have any points added. Dn't think I actually won, though...

I will go along with the punishment. I knew i was a little over the limit. What i find bad is that a camera van parks on the grass of the central reservation after bumping up over the kerb. I wonder how long i could park a large van on the centre grass area of a dual carriageway ?
Its not bad just 2 speeding catches in 55 years as i have run a bike at 140 mph a few years back.
Must be near a million miles on private and work vehicles now.
My Grandaughter got caught by camera 2 days running locally and 2 boys have been caught, one at 46 in a 40 and the one with a Porsche speed was agreed at 104 mph but was a bit more. Just standard 3 points and a fine.
The eldest boy now has a 150 mph Jaguar XK but at 50, has slowed down a bit now. The Porsche 911 was actually quite dangerous driven fast and the next owner also sold it due to its lack of grip at speed despite fitting soft Bridgestone tyres.
The Jaguar in possession now has low miles and tyres are 15 years old so coming off very soon. It was a covetted car by its former keeper.
There are some nice supercars for low money now so the boy is now shopping for an Aston Martin DB9

perhaps the missing letter that escaped from behind the acrylic backing on the Perspex numberplate , is on the floor

perhaps the garage fairies might put it back at some point

Its pressed aluminium plate on my old bikes. Plastic ones would have shattered very soon on a ride

I've seen a few speed cameras here on college campuses and government complex parking areas, but not out on public highways.

They might survive the day, but not the night. By no means the night.
