V.E.D on new cars

I have just tried out a 1.5 lexus with very low emissions being a hybrid. Then i look at the first years road tax and its 390 pounds. This new tax has come in recently and normally hits cars over 40k harder but the Lexus is about 34k.
These new tax rates are high for a few years after buying until it lowers. Seems a good way to destroy the new car sales. Range Rovers must be about 4k a year now then. Last time i looked at a tax on one about 12 years ago it was 1.7 K a year.
Two of the boys pay about 900 pounds for their V8 4.2 and 5.7 litre cars.
Quite like the Lexus but the 3 cylinder engine vibrates a lot more than my 2 litre 4 cylinder unit. It is also rather bouncy on corners compared with a Corolla. Next, i try a Mercedes 1.3 litre and that might be a bit revvy putting out 165 BHP.
Grandaughters BMW 2 litre diesel Coupe is 35 pound to tax. 2012 model and still looks good with no rust

Well the Lexus was averaging 76 mpg for the traffic laden Exeter/Exmouth journey with 80 percent on battery.
Unfortunately, the cars ride was poor with its large diameter wheels and the engine a bit gruff. It is European car of the year 2025 but not very impressive. Well finished and leather interior but not the comfort over bumps. The 2 litre Corolla is a good engine and comfort so i need to find a car at least as good.
