Cheddar Jumble

Amazed how busy it was, I arrived about 9:45 and gone again by 11:45.

Managed to pick up a very nice valve spring compressor for £4 - my old one is past it's best, and I need one for the Morini.

Some decent looking stuff amongst the usual stuff that may be better off in a skip, think I saw a very oily rag Vincent Comet for £7900 if memory serves. Also one of those BSA / Triumph (T25?) Trail type bikes for £1500 which looked decent, no idea if it was a runner.

Decent grub available as well.

Pretty windy / wet at times, just missed a tree branch falling on the car on the way home - that could have been expensive.

Anyway a decent couple of hours spent, met a few people I had not seen for a while, but did not manage to spot you if you were there.

Who needs a signature anyway......

It doesn't matter if it was a runner or not. It would break very soon it was a runner.

I got robbed again. The trouser side pocket cut with a scalpel vertically. I felt something touching and moved then my phone and glasses fell to the floor. Reported to organiser and he said there were a few more. Dont ever wear cargo trousers with zip pockets as thats the ones they go for. I had put my money into a jacket inside pocket since this cutting also happened at Kempton where i lost a lot of cash.
There was a Vic Camp Ducati fairing numbered 24 with an older number 16 on it in bright red.
V-twin 4 exhaust port Rudge which is a bit unique.
I arrived at 9am and left 12.30 with new exhaust pipes and a tank badge so managed something.
Very windy and busy.
Those going to any show now, should be wary of these knife robbers. I will make sure all my visible pockets are empty but since the last robbery, i only carry a low amount of money and keep some in the car if i need more.
Stafford will get these Albanians in for sure. At Kempton there are signs up warning they will be on site and a loud hailer is worked as a warning if someone reports a robbery.

Some nice AJS 7Rs for sale and one good looking Ariel 350 which looked like a runner at 1750. I did see someone buy an Ariel 3 which is a good toy if you have a car park to ride it in. I would like to buy another old bike but its becoming a battle mending and moving them around at time which is why i have owned the same bikes a long time. Last new one i bought in 2017 and that will stay with me for more use yet. I still keep wanting a Matchless G5 350
Next big day out is Motorcycle live with 2 Grandchildren. Nothing much to buy there so no cash needed but i might buy a new Helmet as my good ones i use a lot are about 10 years old or more.

But an autojumble?

I spent 7 hours of this beautiful fall day at the Shenandoah Valley British Car Club show. 150 old British sports cars and roadsters from Bentleys to Rileys to my MGC to every kind of Lotus, Triumph, Jaguar, Mini, Morgan, big Healey, and TVR ever made.

Many hundreds of very sociable people, kids running around everywhere ... but if there had been ANY Albanian pickpockets there, they would have stuck out like sore thumbs, and anyone seen razoring a pocket would be given very short shrift on the spot.

I hope you fix it. Autojumbles are supposed to be fun.

There were two other very nice MGCs there, so I didn't win a trophy, but I'm going to ride my Firebird Scrambler next year and I'll bet I get one....!

Lannis, these are organised criminals and they know autojumbles only deal with cash. They are at every autojumble in the UK now and very good at cutting trouser pockets. For this to have happened to me twice must mean a lot of others get cut. One old man at Kempton lost 3k he was carrying to buy a bike there. I lost 650 at Kempton but nothing Today. I am thinking of another way to secure cash but best way for now is a heavy material jacket with inside pocket and fully zipped up. Imagine the people who lose an i-phone out at these sales. I dont have one but it would be a nuisance to lose my phone list on my simple phone. I have already taken a precaution of only going in with about 40 pounds in cash so i can then go out to the car if i need more.

Bloody hell Geoff, I did not see any suspicious folk around, most of em were old codgers like the rest of us

If these scroates are around I guess we are easy prey, as there will be a lot around with wads of cash will take what you say on board for my next visit.

Had my phone and cash in an inside coat pocket so hard to get at.

I saw problems coming in 2020 when i installed my CCTV on the house and big signs indicating the cameras were live. I also fitted extra locking bolts on the garage doors that go 2 inches into concrete block and included the normal weak spot which is the hinge side of the door. It is easy to crow bar at the hinges.

Yes but with just pants on, there are no pockets to cut ! A bit wary now walking about so not carrying much money in the wallet now. Really, i only need a 10 pound note as my shopping is always by card unless at autojumbles.
November at NEC, i will buy a helmet using a card. I think my usual supplier died as he said he had cancer and last year he was absent from the show. He used to post the helmet to me so i had the one i wanted. Small stall with his wife but he did have a real shop premises

I think I have rumbled Geoff....he claims to have been robbed so his wife does not know how much he really spends on crap at jumbles.
Its either that or Totty/horse racing/ something naughty.

Shhh, the horse was tipped to come in at 20 to 1. Damn thing got lost and came in at 4pm.
