More cameras

Around Exeter in the commuting roads, another 4 cameras have been set up. In the first 7 days 1000 motorists were caught but all just got a warning letter.
These roads are very risky to use now as i suppose drivers speed up to catch up time lost stuck in traffic.
It took me 90 minutes this week to get just past Exeter.13 miles total.
When i worked in Exeter, i used to start a lot earlier to miss this heavy traffic but now there seems to be double the traffic of 15 years ago.
Just be aware if driving in Devon and Cornwall now, there are a hell of a lot of cameras in use.

I hate to rub salt in your wounds but where I live there is only one permanent speed camera in the whole county. Plenty of mobiles ones operating at select locations but only one fixed "revenue collector".

On the down side I'm a stones throw from Wales, aka the land of the Drakeford Memorial 20mph speed limits.

"Some you win, some you lose" I suppose. But I count myself lucky not t live in a dismal shithole like Geoff

There are more and more of those 20 MPH zones popping up around here, cant see why in most cases since there have been 30 limits there for years, and you dont hear about accidents happening there on a regular basis.

Same goes for 40 limits, a few of those have appeared in places where the limit had been 60 for years.

You just have to accept it I'm afraid, it is a sign of the times.

After my most recent close call it did cross my mind whether I should pack in riding as without doubt it is getting more dangerous out there, but to be honest I really just cannot give it up, as despite the risks I still enjoy it all too much.

If I do pack it all in perhaps I should sell all the bikes and buy myself a monster 4x4 and join the rest of the sheep...........

Who needs a signature anyway......

And more will come - blame "Vision Zero", a patently unacheivable pan-European drive for zero road traffic fatilities. The zealots behind this are akin to the "Net Zero" climate activists - they really don't care what damage their goals do as long as their goals are met - "If it saves just one life it is worth it "

Another step along the route to the internal annhialation of what currently passes as "civilisation".

face it,its all about harvesting cash.
When you consider how much the West country relies on tourism it will backfire on them soon enough.

They'll have to find more boat passengers to fill the hotels when the tourists stop.

There's a big But!! The answer is keep to the speed limit in my mind the only nasty cameras are the ones at the start of bus lanes and yellow crosshatching on traffic controlled roundabouts .

The biggest collection of the cameras now sit on all approaches to the Exeter hospital where there are virtually no accidents. Many are at bus lanes now although very few buses using them.
I do keep to speed limits in these built up areas as i dont need to rush anywhere now.
1000 speeders in 7 days is very high for a small area of Exeter and now they are beginning the 20 mph zones in the side streets, that brings in more mobile cameras.
I have been lucky only being caught this once in 56 years riding.
What will happen more is that motorists may be concentrating more on camera spotting than watching whats in front of them.
Den, we like tourists here really as they often go home with 3 points and a 100 pound fine for the memories.
Exmouth is now refurbishing the town centre and all the sea wall work has been done at a cost of about 20 million pounds. For some reason, the scheme to prevent sea water getting onto the road included taking down a 2 foot high wall so the sea gets in much easier. I wonder who thought that up as most of the defence was raising walls and now all the sea water will just go in this lowered area and run along the roads into town.

You forgot the sewage problems that have occurred not Exmouths fault Southwest Water but the last and this year the main road into Exmouth has had work going on which puts off visitors one of my family regularly went to Exmouth but not now
I only go there for Podiatry at The Hospital and the Dentist i will be going hopefully to Specsavers as its the nearest but have to wait as have an eye appointment at the Nightingale hospital at Sourton for eye examination. .
I liked Exmouth before the millionaires flats were built and a proper harbour and loads of places along the seafront for the children.

Most houses within 400 yards of the beach are now at 1 million pounds. One small part of a house looking over the sea is at 1.25 million this week. Tiny little place but does have a small Granny flat attached.
I see a lady got run over by a car in the grounds of Wonford hospital this week despite the 10mph speed limit.
Meanwhile, a woman in the York pub was glassed in the face and had her face stitched back. Its wild west season in town at the moment.

Safe enough indoors but tricky out riding when the 90 year olds come out at weekends. I am waiting to see how the recent boat people in the town will get along. So far, the groups are families and the children all go to the local school and behave well. They also get involved in the after school events. There is just 1 adult who has been stalking at school times but i think someone has told him not to be there every day as his daily visits in the road have stopped.
Looks like we have a good mixed bunch but its noticeable that they just throw rubbish bags out of the back door where the seagulls throw it around. Peace for now and only 2 murders this year so far but Xmas there may be 1 or 2
