Worth?

OK what is my Ariwl worth

Owned for over fifty years only three of this modle made
A 1952 VHA all alloy competition engine in a 1954 swing arm frame BSA forks racing girlings on the back i have done over 100 000 miles on it also modified over the years hasn't been ridden for 7 years. So not original needs re conditioning
I have an idea what I want..

Nice looking machine Dave, as too it's value at this moment in time is a tricky one. Big British bikes are definitely not making large sums. High supply low demand ?
Perhaps it's the end of an era, as younger riders are looking for machines of their youth.
Like yourself, I have had my present Goldie for fifty plus years, as too it's worth I am not particularly bothered as I no intention of selling it.
I realise you are unfortunately unable to ride, but if you are still able to store it, and not up the corner for the money, why sell it.
Just give it a polish and remember all the fun you had together. When it's gone it's gone.

I forgot how heavy it was when trying to move it
Have freed off the clutch and managed to pump up the tyres with an electric pump...
Trouble is thinking to moving house to be nearer to the kids Well thats Mazes idea

Personally, i would keep it for the memories as i will with my T120r. I will not sell it after i finish riding and it will stay in the garage.

It appears that the Japanese young riders want these old British bikes now and pay a premium price. Just need to find an agent that ships them out. Normally, the British number plates stay on as they want an authentic bike

That’s a very nice looking bike. I’d be very happy riding it out and about . Unfortunately I’m not really into fettling these days having two in the garage already and not enough time to tend them properly.

Not sure why you would consider selling it Dave as it's a big part of your life and bikes are special to us and can bring back great memories.

Sentimental value incalculable, monetary value heartbreakingly low.

I suspect at an auction it would fetch around £4k unless there are 2 bidders who both known & care about its rarity AND have the funds for a bidding duel.

If it really is very rare (IKFA about Ariels) would Sammy Miller be interested in it for his museum?

That's a good point about the Miller museum, that way you could have the best of both worlds.

Let him have it "on loan", and of course being in the museum would be looked after, also lots of other folk get to enjoy seeing it.

Suspect it would also get fired up from time to time.

Seems like a win win situation.

I have so much stuff collected over the years probably over a hundred modles of bikes and don't mention Clocks two Longcase clocks one i hoping that Ottery st Mary museum would like as its an Ottery made clock then a number of antique wall clocks .. then there's all my equipment lathes drill presses etc.
Grahams works have numerous motorcycle that theyare getting pissed of holding for buyers taking up room for porsches

Graham should be getting an income from renting out the space they’re occupying if they just aren’t picking them up after repairs. A garage next door to the place I worked many years ago. Had a Triumph Toledo? In for repairs and the owner just wouldn’t pick it up. It was covered in dust, when I asked why the garage owner said I’m just waiting for the unpaid rental to reach the value of the car and then I’m going to sell it - which he did.

If it was Toledo he probably had to wait for two weeks then? Toledo's were never the stuff of dreams even when newish.

It was the only way he could justify selling it as for reasons unknown the owner seem reluctant to pay for the repairs he/she had agreed to.

I had to deal with my brothers vast collection of "treasures" when he died. To the majority of other people these were worthless junk but we managed to find auctioneers who specialised in those fields of interest to sell them. The sales didn't raise vast fortunes but did relieve us of the burden of disposing of them and it meant the items went to people who appreciated them instead of landfill.

One advantage with my B33 as well as looking at it I can start it. In 2016 I fitted an electric start.

I'm currently in discussions with someone with space and an appropriate internet presence to set up a sell-it-for-you service, with everything pre-checked except mechanical innards. We'll have to rely on sellers' records for that. Credibility of records will affect price.
We will also offer a parallel auction service, or use it as an option if a bike doesn't sell.
All the time bikes available to view, without visitors to your garage/shed.
Besides the bikes and cars, there's an awful lot of home-workshop equipment on the market at the moment.
I know of people renting storage units for the Winter and planning selling in the Spring when everyone will know how good or bad the Budget has been.

Will, it's all market manipulation and expectation management.
"good" is not an absolute, it is just relative to everything else.
Turning the thermostat down 1 or 2 degrees is a sign of hardship for some, but a dry, frost-free night in a doorway is "good" for a rough sleeper.
Values are never going to hit the heights again, except maybe for whatever the future market decides is desirable.
I've only ever bought below market value and so have no expectations, realistic or otherwise.

I am eating out every day now as when the budget hits, the VAT will make it too expensive so fattening up before.

I doubt Sammy would buy an old bike. Most are on loan to the museum but he does buy the rare ones and is often at the autojumbles. He was having some fun a few years ago when he asked me to buy an old bike with a price of over 100K and told me he would do it up a bit for me. He still enjoys a joke. He also still drives his museum van to the shows at an old age

I think loaning to Sammy would be a good compromise if Dave wants the space.

As / when / if the Family wants it back I guess Sammy would give it back.

On the eating out subject, I find it very hit / miss these days. Other half and I try different places but the quality is variable.

One of the best eats is a chippy in Glastonbury, it has been going for generations, you have a decent sit down meal and at a fair price, and the quality is always good.

More that can be said for some of the pubs around here.

Sammy will usually only accept rare bikes. It is unlikely he would display a bike which was common place in its time. His bikes are mostly race or performance old bikes or very rare old bikes. Of course, his space is limited. There is a good museum nearby in Taunton that might want a display bike. That museum is a display of traditional road cars and bikes. Worth a thought but i think Dave would miss it from the garage so its worth keeping it there.
