Reminds me of the time an Allegro did a U turn in front of me in Hyde Park.
Wrote off both it and my CB200. I was lucky, very lucky to hobble away without serious injuries.

Maybe the parking of Matchlesses in the side of Minis was a common occurence cack then ?

Looks like fixing the Matchless would be easier than fixing the Mini - though any day one of Issigoniss's miniature abominations bites the dust is a good day AFAIAC.

What's the knock against Minis?

They seemed to us (who didn't get them) to be quite an improvement over the stodgy pre-war designs that were offered in 1959 from the other makers.

And much beloved in vintage racing even to this day .... ?

Absolutely awful things to work on - no access, many poor design decisions, rot for the fun of it.

Quite fun to drive - when working. Probably didn't help that I had an old-ish (at the time) one as a first car after we got married for T'Wife to get practice in to pass her test.. Really glad to see the back of it.

Should have bought the late model Triumph 13/60 Herald that my father offered me. Needed some work & I didn't have the time / inclination then, so passed on the offer. In hindsight, a mistake.
I still quite fancy a Herald / Vitesse / Spitfire / GT6, but lack space / motivation to get one.

That happened to me on the Golden Flash; I went over the car, landed on my back, gently felt around my bones; nothing broken, not even a bruise. The BSA dealer repaired the bike for eighty pounds, which the car driver paid.

That’s the sensible version of the Austin Mini Countryman, without the wood stuck to it.
