Watching the old shows and movies with a modern eye, I can't imagine that the characters could see anything anyway through the thick haze of cigarette smoke.

EVERYONE smoked. Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Andy Griffith, Edward R. Murrow, Chet Huntley, even the Flintstones smoked Winstons .....

Once, a long time ago, when travelling down the A10 passed Waltham Cross I went straight through a red light. I had changed my sun glasses for blue tinted ones that completely took the colour out I never wore them again,
