I’ll be there early tomorrow Jerry. Avoid anywhere near Bristol, as I’m sure you will, as there is chaos there with a car fire on the motorway.

3 in my car. Just keep money secure as there are rascals cutting trouser pockets as i have found at Cheddar and Kempton. I now fold up some paper and put in the trouser pockets and keep money inside jacket pocket zipped in.
I need a helmet this time but hard to find the type i want now.

Geoff, you ought to put a note on the bits of paper e.g. "hard luck you theiving bas*ard".

Following your advice any cash / phone / keys wil be kept in an inside zipped pocket.

Its the trousers with side pockets they cut. Cargo style trousers. At Cheddar, the organisers said they had cut quite a few and use surgical scalpels. Of course, at autojumbles, cash is always used so they know you are carrying it. I lost 650 pounds at Kempton and not returned since. Best to just carry a little and leave some in the car. I will have about 20 pounds at the show but if i find a helmet, i can fetch the money. The 20 pounds will be in coins of course. I was lucky at Cheddar as my phone fell out and someone noticed it fall from the cut open pocket

I dont wear cargo style trousers, so mighgt be a bit safer.

It's bloody dangerous slicing someones pocket open with a scalpel, could easily go too deep and draw blood.

I shall certainly be vigillant tomorrow.

One old scheme was two or three thieves working together. One would bump into the chosen victim putting his hands on him and apologise profusely then move off the other, one or two, would watch the victim who would in instinct check his wallet was still there by tapping his pocket. The scene was then set for the accomplice for a later attack. Don’t immediately check. If it’s gone then it’s gone, if it isn’t then hopefully they’ll move on to the next target.

A short length of fishing line is tied through a small hole in the wallet, with the other end attached to your trouser belt. You will feel the tug as they try to take it. Then you can hit them across the throat with your favourite Karate chop.
Also, a small piece of paper between the points will thwart any attempt to steal most bikes; they would have to wheel it away, or pick it up and carry it.

The old favourite to protect theft of old cars was to remove the rotor arm. They would never be able to start the car.
Meanwhile, i am up and running and nearly ready to leave for Shepton. Tea flasks and sandwiches made and a desire to buy a metallic white helmet at 130 to 200 pounds. Should be the last one i need to buy.

Why not just buy an Enfield? people wont even thing about stealing it, the perfect deterrent.
