Digital speedometer

Anybody got any recommendations for a reasonably priced digital speedometer please.

Search for GPS speedometer on ebay Den. there are loads and several different sizes around 50 pounds for a round one with a normal needle

The ones I have used tended to fluctuate, never sitting at a steady indication. Analogue types sit steady.

As Geoff says take a look on E Bay, dont go for the really cheap ones though, as they can be a bit slow to respond to speed changes.

The one I fitted to the Morini was like that but even so was better than the Kmh speedo.

Who needs a signature anyway......

This is the problem with using any GPS as a speedo, even expensive satnavs and including ones built into cars.

For a motorbike a simple bicycle speedo will suffice just as long as you make sure it will cope with faster speeds (I once made the mistake of buying one that couldn't = it self destructed the first time I went over 100kph / 60mph).

as those were origionally built for the chinease market , but then sold in the UK
there is a major problem
the chinease havee there own gps system BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS)

on a rainey day with the gods in your favour , and standing on high ground , you :may: get a signal

I had one on a bobber i built , bought from a :reputable" uk suplier for sabout £150 I could set off from my house and drive thru 5 speed csmeras with nothing ion the display

DO NOT buy shite from ebay (from china) , buy from uk suplier of terms that you can return, if it will not pick up european sat sys

Just buy one of the cheap cycle speedos, go for the wired ones as the wireless ones can be affected by ignition. They can be a little bit fiddly to set up but I have found they work well on my Greeves. You can then calibrate the original bike speedo by marking the glass at the various speed limits with strips of adhesive tape.

The wired ones can be affected by ignition too. I tried screening the cable from pickup to readout on one inexpensive unit, which helped a bit but it would still fail. IIRC the reading intermittently locked up & required the battery removing to get it working again.

I have a Sigma Sport 8 unit on my MZ (mainly to get a clock & trip meter) that was fitted to an RE Classic 500 (4 speed) when I bought it. That seems to have been designed for vehicle use, but doesn't seem to be available now.

I set the scaling factor by running a piece of thin cable around the center of the tyre & cutting where it ovelapped to get an accurate circumference. The Sigma is natively Metric, so the measured circumference has to be divided by 1.61 when set up for Imperial - when set like this the MZ speedo very accurately tracks the digital one.

When I originally started riding the RE I used the Sigma speeedo as the RE unit seemed out by a long way. Subsequently found that the previous owner had not set the Sigma up correctly - when the correct scale factor was set the RE speedo also turned out to be accurate & by using the Sigma incorrectly set I had been running well over 10% faster than the speed limits.

I have found MZ speedometers pretty accurate.

Modern RE ones seem pretty accurate if the Himalayan one is anything to go buy - always slightly over by a couple of MPH, never under.

My old Bullet had an "approximeter" rather than a Speedometer, it was erratic to say the least.

I fitted a wired bicycle speedo on that one and it worked with no issues.

The GP pushbike speedo that I fitted to the Morini was OK, but quite slow to react - the Morini has now gone onto the next owner.

Who needs a signature anyway......
