I remember when the average household used newspaper.
Nobody complained about any shortage of Toilet Paper.

I remember the IZAL tracing paper which used to slide around when wiping. Hotel and public conveniences in the 50s and 60s

you lot are bringing back sad memories
my father used to work at local tech collage ,the 2 things he could "borrow" was shell rotella oil (used in eveything from dustbin wagons to mayers rolls royce) and you have guessed it , Izal opaque tracing paper

many many sad yrs , I think my parants abused me

I maybe wrong, often am, but I seem to recall IZAL in little square packets already in separate sheets. Am I wrong?

Yes, IZAL was available in the cardboard box that fitted into a white porcelain dispenser. We had them in parents hotel for the guests but us peasants preferred the cut up newspaper. My hands could be a bit ink stained at times.
