That's my plan.

Several of us are going to take a 3000 mile two week trip down to Texas in June to visit an old friend who used to ride 50,000 miles a year, but had an off at age 76 and had to quit.

The eldest of us is 79, I'm 72, the youngest is 62, but we're going to act like kids probably; well, smart kids anyhow.

I am still riding around when its nice out but distance is limited by arthritis pain. I still really enjoy things and doing a bit of work on the boys houses now and then.

I'm with you on the arthritis problem Geoff. Got it in my fingers and just wonder if this might be my last chance on the race circuits. Clip-ons are a big no go on the roads.

One problem is finger cramps when out for an hour. My fingers are generally very good but the legs and feet are really shot.
The bikes are getting hard to mount up but i can now start them up as the arthritis seems to leave for a time before coming back.
Cider vinegar and folic acid from vitamin shops do slow it down.

Fay and I are probably good for one more multi-thousand mile ride this year (to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and 55 years of riding together) on the Guzzi Stelvio or Triumph Trophy, but that will be the last hurrah for tall bikes of 600+ pounds curb weight.

Also, I've about had it with high-tech bikes full of automated wizardry that no one can work on and which can't be repaired beyond a certain point.

I'm getting the premier mechanic of the USA to start with a bike that was wrecked in 1988 with 100,000 miles on it and has been laying in a shed since.

He has taken it down to every single nut and bolt, every gear, shaft, seal, and bushing, and is building and refurbishing every moving part to as-new spec, with a few modern material improvements.

He's not repainting or rechromimg anything, which is why I can afford for him to do it. He did powdercoat the replacement frame , but that's it.

Once it's done (by June, I hope - he started in November), I'll get rid of the modern bikes and just use this one for everything, solo and two-up. And I can tune, service and repair it myself.

I'm 83 this year. I'm trying to keep going by attaching a sidecar to one of my bikes. My problem is right knee and terrible sciatica.

The time to stop riding is when you fall off when the bike is stationary.

I am happy to hold a bike up with a metal knee. They are very strong and still good at over 20 years now.
I would agree with Lannis about all the electronics playing up. Both my modern Triumphs have management lamps on but both ride perfectly. The R111 speedo has a solder fractured inside so its left not working.
The engine faults are possibly emission sensors.

Yep - I fell off before I even got on the thing. A Bantam of all bikes. It rolled forwards as I was "getting my leg over" ( ooer Missus ). Of course I had to land on the 'bad' temporary hip joint.
