I wish I knew where they got their glass cutters from. My attempts with various cutters have usually ended in tears.

You just need absolute confidence.

Glass has an uncanny knack for spotting a nervous or inexperienced amateur attempting to cut it, and invariably won't comply, breaking at the most inopportune point of the job, and given any chance will result in a plentiful flow of blood.

However glass will always snap cleanly and accurately out of respect for the skill of a time-served professional, who has a warehouse full of glass, unlike the amateur who only has that bit he just bought and carried home with such care.

Thanks for that Will, I do believe you are right but I have tried, believe me I have tried and over many years of trying I get the sweats just picking up the glass cutter but even if I score the line until I’m almost through the glass it still defies me. I end up a shivering wreck and often require counselling, please send help.

When I was repairing clocks often would need glasses square was OK but circular no housed to go to the local window company later when I moved to Devon found a company Lethienian Glass. Who could cut and shape anything I asked for even glass domes I think they are still in existence but not shure the company was taken over by the local jewelers
They were in Exmouth ..

Amazing skill - cutting the glass freehand must take a lot of experience.

My late Dad when showing me how to cut glass told me that glass can age harden so be very careful on what you use.I f possible invest in a diamond tipped cutter.

My Dad also had the knack of glass cutting, even if I used his cutter I would fail miserably.

Your posting it quite timely Geoff did not want to mention this earlier in case it did not work.

This works on metal bodied mirrors as well.

One of the H2 mirrors had sufered some damage and since OEM ones are very rare / stupidly expensive if you can get them I thought I would try and fix it.

The only way to get the mirror out was to break it, heating the housing it would come out.

With the mirror out I made a reasonable job of knocking out the dents in the housing.

There is a bloke on E Bay that sells 115mm diamater 2mm thick concave mirrors which is what is in the H2 - only £9.

It arrived today, so fitted the mirrror to it's edging strip, then took a heat gun to the mirror body gave it a good blast, and the new mirror and surround went in fairly easily.

Stuck a bit of adhesive around the edging strip just in case but now the mirror has cooled it seems to be held pretty tight.

Still waiting on DVLA to give me a number.....

I have a diamond tipped lass cutter which does well most times. Some of the old greenhouse glass does harden and become difficult to cut. i used to do a bit of greenhouse glass jobs at the University
