Chinese cars

Jaecoo is now the top selling car in the UK outselling Ford and Nissan which are second and third place.
I looked at fuel consumption and at 41 mpg for a 1.6 is fair and might suit a low mileage driver. I wonder how they will do at trade in time.
I am still considering a Volvo but it is much more expensive and will certainly hold good resale value

most of the Jaecoo have been recalled

on DVLA website under reason , it just says "chinease shite"

Maybe right then.
My Toyota had recall work Yesterday on the electronic control gear. They said that my instrument panel and braking system might fail due to faulty software. I asked if that would solve the discharging 12 volt battery problem that has been a constant failure on this car and they told me that will continue to fail. Again, i told them it would be hard for me to have another if these batteries keep failing. I have added my own parts that will cure the problem now and fitted a German battery. Shame the dealer just does not respond to the fault

rose tinted glasses , they were shit , rusted out before 1st mot , engine dated back to 19 bow and arrow , , the front suspension was so simple , it broke if you looked at it

in all reality and to loose all the electrics , I would prefer a pergeot 205 , diesel form ie 205 grd

Morris Minor were a bit of fun on bends if pushed too hard. If you rolled one, it rolled very well on that curved roof. Rear spring hangers used to go up through the boot floor and that clutch or brake cylinder under the floor was a pain.
I had a Peugeot 205 1.9 diesel and it was a very good runner with just 60 bhp. Sold that one and bought a 1.4 Peugeot 206 diesel.
The cars of around 2002 were much more reliable than a new car now. They also have super low road tax of about 30 pound. best car was Vauxhall astra 2 litre diesel with no road tax at all for 2011 and 165bhp.

On the other hand, all parts are replaceable and easy to get new. In theory you could keep one going forever. Compare that to new cars with a 7 year life.
Same can be said of 2CV's; replacement parts are often better than original,such as galvanised chassis; you can remove main body and send it to a place that will out out all the rust, rust proof and paint it. Such a simple design it can be easily uprated on many systems.
If only Morris 1000 and 2cv were the only cars you could buy roads would be a lot safer I reckon

and no plastic.

What comes in with a lot of rust is old VW campers which are often parked near the sea. The boy sometimes welds an entire front panel on these as the rust around the screen gets too bad. people will spend 3000 pound welding those old vans including fitting new front floors and the step.
On average, the modern cars are in need of welding repairs at 15 years locally.
Mud flaps have not been used or supplied by makers for near 40 years as they cause severe rusting along the bottom edge of the sills when water clings on instead of blowing away on a journey. The plastic inner arch cover are sufficient to keep rust out of the front arch area.
At the garage, the boy sand blasts the bottom of campers and applies waxoyl rust proofing but its quite a pricey job once the vehicle has started its decay.

I must say that in ten years of chauffeuring hi powered cars up and down the M4 the most relaxing journey was in a 2CV as you couldn't overtake anything or break the speed limit.

I was chauffeuring the old girl when I drove her Audi 100CD, also on the M4 so well designed that when in fifth gear you had to change down to 4th to change the cassette in the radio. Always some little niggardly thing going wrong.

On the other hand it was fast, when the old girl had been on a bender we thought she was about to snuff, being under orders she was to die in her own bed, I did Hans Place in London to her place Wiltshire in 50mins. That was late evening 40yrs ago. [To clarify said old girl was NOT my wife but an old titled lady who could have come from a PG Wodehose yarn]
