Another VW Golf in the garage

A 2011 car came in Today and looked immaculate all over as they usually do.
This one had a hole in the nearside sill the size of a fist and it was right through the inner sill.
The hole was right in line with where the 2 doors meet so right in the middle of the sill. It is hard to see why it rusted there and not at the area near the wheels.
Rust on cars down here is common due to drivers cruising the long seafront and driving in the salt water puddles so not a direct reflection on VW.
Some Ford Focus models are far worse.
The boy does these jobs for other local garages as they do not want welding in the larger garages due to fire risk. He loves welding more than mechanical repairs now he has reached 50 and gearboxes and engines are too heavy to handle

That is one of the reasons when we bought the Skoda Graham fitted mud flaps the the front wheels don't throw all the crap up the sides in wet weather

62 years driving had convinced me German cars are all BS and Hype.

remember those huge Tiger tanks with excellent engineering that mostly broke down on the battlefield?

top of the range Mercs that rust?
As for Audis so beloved of imported drug dealers, when was the last time you saw an old CD100? I had to drive one for my job,what a pile for poo that was.
would never buy a German car.

I had a BMW bought brand new. I did not get another one.
Modern Mercs are often alloy bodied so no rust. The SLK200 supercharged i had recently was a good car except my new Toyota hatchback was faster and used less fuel. That car looked lovely but no comfort for 400 mile journey. Bit of fun with the roof down but sold on after 1 year.
Most German cars have very hard seats so i am unlikely to buy one having tried out so many of the VW range. Merc seats are a bit better.

Well known i had a V W 1302s Beetle it covered over 200,000 miles never broke down then sold off foe spare parts which have covered the fun we had with it
