H2 Insurance saga

Called Bennetts again today, spoke to a very helpful person.

They were supposed to call me back......they never did.

Tried again to get an online quote, same issues:

Reg No not recognised.
If I select Kawasaki as the make the model H2 does not appear on any list.

Ah well yet another phone call on Monday.

3rd time lucky perhaps.

On the plus side I got the winner of the National £27, you win some...........

change insurance companies

actually , have you tried an online quote

very often its easie to say we dont know the bike that to give a quote for a bike you do not want to handle

Always found PJ expensive, but might give him a try, might also try Nash.

Feels like I am banging my head against a brick wall at the moment.

BeMoto have a good reputation for insuring "problem" bikes. In my case they were very honest and up front admitting they couldn't offer competitive cover on a multi bike policy, thanked me for asking and apoliogied, so I had to bite the bullet and stick with my existing insurer. I know its not much help but it was refreshing change from most other insurance companies.

Only trying to stick with Bennetts as their premiums have always been pretty good for classic bikes.

I am sure it will all sort itself out in time, just frustrated by it all.

Have you tried contacting the DVLA and asking what is a reasonable time scale between them issuing a registration number and it appearing on the insurers access site as it is causing you a great inconvenience to have this vehicle of the road when you have completed every other legal requirement asked of you. If they can’t specify a time is there a number that you can pass on to them to seek confirmation.

Fair point Den, but calling DVLA means another 20 minutes listening to "musak", not sure if I have the inclination to do it at the moment to be honest.

Peter James just insured the boys Rocket 111 and a 1967 Spitfire for just 80 pounds added to his Honda policy for 6 Months. Cheap for a 2.3 litre and a 6k Spitfire.
Pj give him good rates but not me. I have to use CN as they are lowest for me.
Bennetts policy for me was over double that of CN.
Some companies just do not like older riders so put the price up a lot to get rid of them

I use Cornmarket because they were my existing insurer and the only one who would insure 2 high value high capacity bikes on a multi bike policy. Other companies were only bothered by the 2 bikes not my age.

As 6TDen has stated this is a DVLA problem NOT Insurance companies fault. If the reg number is not comming up on their data base then they cant issue insurance until it does. For example a Triumph 199cc (Tiger Cub)792XWH was registered by DVLA in Feb with V5c issued on 19 March 2026, its showing on DVLA web site but not on the AA car checker https://www.theaacarcheck.com/
Andy C look up you reg on the AA web site, I bet its not on which means that info has not gone over to 3 party and insurance compaines data bases yet. (Note the Triumph is not my bike, just one a found for an example)

Appreciate the help but it appears that you have to pay to use the AA car checker site.

Having said that I found a couple of free car check websites, both report that the Reg No does not exist.

Guess I'll just have to wait until it appears in the 3rd party sites.

Really cannot be bothered to call DVLA, just fed up with it all to be honest.

I know how you feel with DVLA

I recenly moved house and misplaced my driving licence
I did have a photo of it thatI had sent to housing Assoc , for tenancy

2 things , replacment licence and change of address , all gone digital now , you need a goverment digital thingybob to apply , you also need a smartphone to complete the aplication (takes a picture , dunno) the mobile thing was shite , would not complete

tried it , gave full details as written on the photo I had , was not acceted , rung the DVLA , he checked my licence , all was good , HOWEVER the goverment department that needed to talk to DVLA was broken (and had been since day one)

plan 37 a form d1 , a photo of my licence with words , lost licence , needs new address , downloaded bank statements showing my pension going in with my national insurance number , a letter from pension service with my name and NI number and a postal order either £20 or £25 and hope that a HUMAN looked at it , undeerstood the D1 , which did not allow me to say things
6 weeks later my licence appeared

With the passing of my other half in January, I have had to deal with a lot of "institutions".

Thing I hate the most is when you call someone, you get all the press option 1 / 2 /3 etc.

Then all the speel about "your" security - telling you to look at the privacy statement on their website. Not forgetting "these calls may be recorded for training purposes" supposing I did not want my calls recorded, do I have a say in the matter?

Next you get put in a queue and are forced to listen to some horrible "music", not forgetitng the "our call is important to us, thankyou for holding" err, well I have no choice other than to hold.

Sometimes you get cut off for no reason at all and have to start all over again.

You evenntually get put through to someone who may or may not be able to help, and on it goes.

Then there is the beaurocracy that has gone wrong, after filling in umpteeen "online forms" various institutions stil manage to mess it up. Had to complete a Nat West "Docusign" form umpteen times.

It just goes on and on, DVLA is just about the straw that broke the camels back.

Oh, also had a reminder in the week from the Docs that I need to go for an annual blod test, call the surgery "sorry sir you have to book the appointment on line. FFS supposing I dont have a smartphone / laptop.

It's enough to drive you around the bend, hang on perhaps it has.

Now perhaps you can see why I am pi**ed off with DVLA, it is just another hassle I dont need.

Think I'll go for a ride this afternoon in the rain.......

To be fair Andy after being refused by your preferred insurer the DVLA should have been your first call. As it is you appear to be picking up the cat’s tail and waggling the cat instead of letting the cat wag his own tail. I wouldn’t say I would have done any better than you, we’ve all had these dealings and suffered failure. Now you realise your only chance is through an action required of the DVLA you should relax, open another bottle of Merlot and let the world go by as you wait for their office to open. Another option is ask that nice Mr Trump to have a word with them.

I have just secured a blue badge parking permit for Grandaughter. Should have been easy with full entitlement to P.I.P at highest award level. They then asked for more info about tablets, health and proof of P.i.P which they had already been sent. i wrote a brief email saying i would now take up the claim where she had failed and what do they need to be sent again. email back the same day saying an expert would examine the claim then an email saying the badge was granted. It was not going very well and then completed in 6 hours.
Poor girl has multiple disabilities and had a lot of Social services help and looked after until aged 25. Such a shame they did not tell her she could claim this P.I.P benefit. The claim was put in after the social had discharged themselves from caring for her. Being partially sighted should have given her a large benefit but she had received no help.These Government departments fight all the way to defeat you.
I wonder how many here aged over 65 realise there is a large amount of money to be claimed if you have a severe disability ? That can be PTSD, Dementia, faulty legs, Parkinsons, Astma, heart problems like angina and many more but it will involve a lot of paperwork. D.W.P had paid 4 Doctors to give an opinion on the Grandaughter. N.H.S billed the D.W.P direct for the fees

AA checker is free to get vehicle Make, Year and Colour which is sufficient to see if vehicle is live on the site. If its not on it just comes up with reg No but no vehicle make and colour

And what will that then do GR. will the info convince the proposed insurer they were wrong and therefore accept it for insuring the bike, I doubt it. Cut out the bull and TALK to the DVLA or Andy will never be able to put that Merlot bottle down!

What I don't understand is how the DLVA or the insurer or whoever has dropped the ball doesn't know what an "H2 Kawasaki" is.

I could understand not having a BSA Fury or a 1936 Humbley-Pudge F20 in their database, but an H2?

There were tens of thousands of them on the road; they were a common motorcycle from a major manufacturer for 5 years, like a T120 or a GT750.

Maybe they just don't want to insure a "widowmaker".

The DVLA compile the list. It is irrelevant how old the vehicle is, or what it is, but the insurers refer to it to assess the cover they will provide. If the DVLA drag their feet, as they do, and the registration isn’t yet listed the insurers will not act. It will turn up eventually but the question is when.

6TDen I just mentioned the AA web site as its a help to see if a vehicle is live on DVLA. Of course it wont convince the insurance company to issue a policy. I often use the AA web site when looking up reg numbers, you can search them a lot quicker that the DVLA site.
