Injector cleaner additive

Is there any point in adding such things as Redex or STP to my tank? The injectors have probably not been touched for years.

The only thing I've ever added to my fuel is the anti-ethanol stabilizer.

No injector problems that I know of.

Have you experienced lack of power going up hill or lack of response when you accelerate if so then yes it will help. If you have a diesel you might also think of changing the fuel filter. Doing both made a drastic difference in my XTrail. Mind you if you have those symptoms you may wish to take advice from your local garage as to what additive to apply. The one they recommended for me was considerably more expensive than Redex and applied to half a tank rather than a full tank.

Ah seems I may have jumped the gun here. I thought you were referring to a car but if it is as seems a bike then my little knowledge does not extend to them so listen to the others.

Probably worth doing as an occasional service chore but not frequently. I add it when prepping a bike winter for winter storage to sabilize a full tank and then hope it will clean the injectors on start up in the spring. But if its a bike I ride thru' out the year I don't bother at all.

I add Redex at every fill up and no clogged or blocked carbs ever. Its very low cost in Lidls at 4.50 for 2 bottles. Not using it on brand new cars as they will not need it during the time i have them.

Similar in Aldi, Geoff. So I thought I’d give it a go since my bike is 20 years old.

Ducai Multi DS1000? From my experience of big cc v-twin bikes of that era fueling & throttle response can be vastly imporved by having the TPS & throttle cables set up very accurately - a job for someone familar with the make & model rather than generic knowledge of inline 4 cylinder bikes.

The family firm has 3 Diesel VW vans and as they age and performance drops a little, they are treated to a bottle to clean the whiskers off the injectors. They also get a treatment to clean up the turbos. The drivers do say it improves the drive a bit.

I would get some "dedicated" injector cleaner designed specifically for the purpose.

We always used to treat both VW Golfs (petrol) to 1 does every year.

IMHO you do notice a difference after running it through the fuel system.

Others may have differing opinions, but for the cost of a "dose" I would say give it a try.

I runs some though both the Himalayan and Speedmaster as well as the one surviving Golf every year.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Redex is a dedicated injector cleaner available in red for petrol and black for diesel.
I dont get any of the common amal carb bowl corrosion either. I never drain carbs at storage time and months later, the bikes will start easily

BP and Shell in Australia claim their petrol will keep fuel systems clean. Although now, with the strife in the Middle East, the Australian government is allowing partially refined fuel into the country and refining it here.
Which could be a problem, as lately, one Refinery has caught fire.

Oh! And the Mazda handbook says not to use additives as they will damage the system.

Shell is supposed to have additives to clean the injectors in the high grade E5 at the pumps. I use this in my new car as it also adds 5mpg so its worth the extra 10p a litre
