The superbike race was excellent. McGuiness is still very fast and being an older rider now. What a spectacular event the TT has become with a speed of 200 mph by Michael Dunlop.

It's hard to believe that they achieve such speeds, but when you see the onboard camera view it makes you appreciate just how fast they are going.

Incredible nerve, skills and reaction times, and I hope there are no more fatalities this year.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Bob MacIntire lapped at 100 mph in 1957 the first. The roade were completely different then ...

And Malcolm Uphill did the first 100mph lap in 1969 on a production bike the Triumph Bonneville.

I did a few laps of the course when it was all set up with signs and barriers on my R111 in 2009. At considerably slower speed although the locals came out in the Evening and did some very fast riding.
Lovely Island to do a bike tour with plenty of places to explore. In one church there is a very large collection of Celtic crosses.
Of course, they do have cod and chips but the Bolognese in the Italian at Laxey was better.
Petrol is more costly but you will not use much at normal road speeds.
I did meet up with the late Geoff Staples briefly before he was going to another Doctor visit for heart trouble.
I wonder where his bikes went which included a Trident in parts boxes and a nice DAX Honda and a Hinckly triple

I don 't have the balls to do any riding at TT speeds, let alone 200mph. But I do remember the debates in the bike press of the day about how a 100mph lap is unachievable.
If I had written in and said 200mph one day I'd have been ridiculed.

I used to go to the TT and Manx GP every year 57 to the 70s alway stopped at the same place whit mates Band B storage for bikes as well happy days

Putting in a lap on the Velo note luggage rack also wearing leathers and race boots can't remember what the lap time was i did keep to speed limits

As Dave points out the mountain circuit was somewhat different in 1957 compared with today. When Bob Mac achieved the first 100 MPH lap on a Gilera four in 1957, bear in mind it was only 500cc, and probably producing no more than mid sixties BHP.

My first IOM visit was 1963, I did witness Malcolm Uphill's ride in 1969. A few years later we were both staying at the same Boarding House, shook his hand and had a chat, a very modest chap.
Had a drink with Geoff S shortly before his demise, a very knowledgeable person, sadly missed on the forum. Unfortunately as many others.

Also shook the hand of a couple of ex TT riders at the weekend, Jerry Fiford and his mate Alex George.

Yes, the TT100 was named after that Triumph did the 100 mph lap. They are just short of an average 135 mph now but not on a TT100 any more
