Cheque books

Time was as you got to the end of your book a new one book would pop through the door.

No longer so with Lloyds - you have to order one, so trotted off to the bank to order one.

Lady behind the counter says "you can do it online" hmmmm I thought I don't want to do it online that is why I came to the Bank.

No wonder the branch is closing in March next year.......

Who needs a signature anyway......

lloyds do several "dirty" tricks when they shut branches , thry give you bull that you will get ALL the facilities at one of 8 gazillion post offices

a week or to later they anouce that the post offices are no longer allowing you to pay cheques in ,,,,,,,,,,,,, and that you should visit your local branch ?????????????????

then the bring in , max amount you can pay in in a month at a post office , think its £2.5k ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or visit your local branch ?????????????

just to add , my "local" branches closed down , nearest one is about a 50 mile round trip , with bank on a pedestrianised , no parking scrote area

lloyds have now moved over all the halifax customers , in order to close all halifax branches

I have 2 cheque books but not used many in the last 15 years. Santander has closed here and i can pay in at Post offices. Its not a good set up is it but Nationwide is expanding to take on all the new business now.
Santander kept the branch in the small town of Sidmouth and closed here where 10,000 new houses are being built.

And Nationwide give customers money back. (the TV ad with the frustarted 'Any Bank' owner and his PA laughing because he has his money in Nationwide.

My soon to close Lloyds has told me more or less that.

There is an already very busy Post Office that is going to deal with everything that Lloyds currently deals with so they tell me.

Having said there is still one branch of Lloyds remaining open about 7 miles away.

Being able to deal with cash, and speaking with people face to face is becoming increasingly difficult.

Who needs a signature anyway......

I do get cheques sometimes and it's easy to put in your account via your mobile phone. Feel sorry for the old school people that don't have smart phones.

Things are getting tricky without a smart phone. I cant use one as i have finger tremors so unable to tap on a number etc. Cant enter a pin number as it hits the same number twice on each touch.
I have had to ask if my new car needs a smart phone to operate it and Volvo dont need a phone yet. Has a touch screen which is tricky but also, i can speak to the damn car and tell it what i want it to do.
So far, my online banking and normal tapping of a card at tills still works but Europe is difficult as many places want payment by phone. Caribbean is still all US dollars cash so i can go there instead.

Indeed I have been told by my local Lloyds that is closing down to get the "app" for paying in cheques. I hate "apps" for anything but being forced to go down that route.

Being able to write a cheque does come in handy, not that I write that many, but useful if I ever need to.

Who needs a signature anyway......

I like to keep a cheque book. Buying a vehicle with a cheque is not practical now but they will take a debit card alright but not cash at dealerships.

as a side note , for the last 30 yrs + there were always cheque cashing shops where they took a percentage , I remember many moons ago working for a agency (pertemps?) who paid you by cheque , if you walked to the bank (probably closed at 3pm) it would take 5 working days to clear , the cheque cashing place would give you money on the spot

since the cheque scanning by phone , they are being cought out , as essensially they are second person trying to cash the cheque , many have been cought out , never to see the person again

most cheque cashing p;aces haver now shut down

In a town that once had 3 major banks we now have now.
However I have a Lloyds account for receiving ebay sales.
Also, Barclaycard credit card.
so I pay my Barclaycard bill with Lloyds cheques via the post.
hopefully it annoys both of them.
