BSA Spitfire

Been in the garage doing some work on the USA sourced Spitfire. Its been in a museum for about 20 years and was refurbished a bit back then but never fired up. Just the fuel tank to fit which may take awhile as its an Indian made one and then it will run using points ignition first then fitting a Boyer MK1V electronic ignition and new coils. The cost has been more than its value now as prices dropped a lot but should make a good bike with so many brand new parts. Tyres are brand new and not used on the road but 20 year old so they might be interesting. It will always stand out with its Gold Star racing brake and alloy flanged rims and 32mm carbs using standard vey noisy exhausts. Now have to sell the Amal GP carbs it came with which might get 700 pounds. Already sold the leaky fibreglass tank. Going to try the kickstart but if not, it will fire up on the roller starter. Its cost around 7000 pounds and would sell for 5000 now except it is not for sale. My 67 Spitfire cost me about 3500 pounds to get to a good standard in 2009. These 2 bikes now look almost the same but one is a MK2 and one is a MK3 so slightly different mudguards

Damn thing kicked back and sheared the cotter pin on the kickstart so timing is way out. Fitted another new pin and that also sheared. Leaving it now to get more cotters on Saturday from Ross on wye jumble. I have a Boyer to fit so that will set the timing up well. Next week job. It was firing with the inlet valve open a little. At least the tank fitted after making some steel brackets and welding them into the shape for the 5 gallon tank.
