silkolene 10w60 4t oil

Posted by geoff the bonnie User icon on September 24, 2026, 9:57 pm

I found a retailer selling this at under 40 pounds for 4 litres Today. It will go in my T120r as it is thin when cold so i can start it easier. Fully synthetic ester based oil normally selling at near 66 pounds on ebay or 20 pound if you buy a litre.
Been searching locally for some time for a supplier of this oil.
Normally used in race bikes and road going superbikes. Should be good enough for my old air cooled twin.
It was also 10 percent pensioners discount day at Trago Mills so i spent 130 pound on other nik-nacs and garden gear.
Petrol at 1.60 for Shell E10

Silkolene is marketed by Fuchs in Australia, try your local store.

Yes, its marketed by Fuchs here Leon. I am finding that these wide range viscosity oils are a real benefit with kick start bikes. The bike also settles down to a tickover in about 30 seconds of start up.
The T120r engine has been built for 15 years so far and not much wear going on. I change oil every year as it only takes about 5 pints and cheaper than another rebuild if neglected

I'm headed off to a Guzzi Rally this weekend on my 71 Ambassador, still got the break-in oil in it after a complete rebuild.

Old thing doesn't have an oil filter at all, so I'll be changing the oil every 1600 - 2000 miles or so with high zinc Shell Rotella 15w40 from a drum.

May get one of those fast-drain fittings so I don't wear out the threads on the sump drain!

Dry clutch on this bike, so an automotive oil with reasonable zinc numbers for the flat tappets, and of a weight in the 10w to 50w range is called for.

Shell Rotella in 5 gallon mini drums prices out to about $5 a quart, and is what the guy who rebuilt my engine recommends and been using for years. My bike went 100,000 miles on it before the rebuild....

I always use Silkolene in my race and road bikes. I have a J&S a mile away from me who are the main agents but if I buy it from ebay I save a third of the price and that's with free delivery. They say support your local high street shops but I cant afford to!

I get most of my 4 stroke and 2t gear oil from Opie Oils who I think are based in Cornwall.

Usually a very good price and very quick delivery.

Like you I use Silkolene for engine and gears, and Mobil 1 Semi Synth 2T oil for the H2.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Is it wet-clutch friendly - JASO MA2 or whatever it is?

Yes Chaz, if it says 4T on the canister, it is for wet clutches

Oil prices

Oil prices seemed to have increased along with petrol & diesel which is to be expected, but some suppliers have almost doubled oil prices so worth shopping round and stocking up, they wont be going down any time soon.
