Joe asked me to respond to your question because it needs a lengthier written explanation, and as everyone knows, when it comes to wordy writing, I'm your guy!
Because of potential schedule conflicts down the road and because of a lost week due to rain in May, we are going to have to play July 7.
Follow the logic:
Playoffs are slated to start June 30. If we skip July 7, we run into the potential conflicts of playoff teams being away at the D Eastern state finals (July 12-14) or the E state Finals (July19-21).
As per bylaws, if a team is at an ASA advanced play tournament they are not required to play the same weekend in league play.
As such, we run into the possibility of delaying both the semifinals and the finals of our divisions (every division, except Blue, has teams playing in Districts and the potential to play in states) to the point that a champion may not be crowned until sometime in August with a lot of time off in between, and that is undesirable.
With Charity Challenge the first weekend in August and the D state Finals the second weekend in August, the continued potential for conflicts stretches well beyond when anyone would like it to, not to mention none of this considers the possibility of another lost Sunday to rain.
As such, it's important that this year we utilize the Sunday following July 4th to continue playing our Division playoffs so as to minimize the possibilities of a conflict further on in the playoffs.
Hope that makes sense.
