DRIFTON - Congratulations to Ryan's Pub from District 6 who won the 2013 ASA of PA Men's Slow Pitch Class "D" State Championship earlier today at the ASA of PA Jake Kislan Softball Complex in Drifton.
Ryan's Pub who plays out of the Chester County Men's Slowpitch Softball League and is coached by Sean Calhoon, went into the championship game undefeated, but lost to Down 'n' Hard/Rohto Softball (District 15-Bucks County) by the score of 16-15, forcing an "IF" Game, where the team bounced right back, winning by the score of 12-5 to claim their first ASA of PA state championship.
Also, congratulations to Kevin McDonald who is the league commissioner of the Chester County Men's Slowpitch Softball League and ASA of PA District 6-Chester County Slow Pitch Player Rep.
A roundup of the tournament, where the other District 6 teams had a very good showing, will soon follow.
The Ryan's Pub ASA of PA state championship marks the 3rd one for District 6 this year, to go along with three runner-up finishes.
District 6 came so close on making history by being the first district to win both the ASA of PA Men's Slow Pitch Class "D" and "E" State Championships in the same year after the terrific 11 game tournament run last month by Maggie's Irish Pub (Radnor Township Softball League) in the "E" state championship ended just shy of a title, after a three run loss in the "IF" Game.
But wait, there's more, Hopson's Seal Coating another team out of the Radnor Township Softball League also had an incredible tournament run and finished second in the 2013 ASA of PA Men's Slow Pitch Class "C" State Championship.
A trifecta of state championships was almost in the cards for District 6.
I have never been more proud of the players and teams from District 6 with their outstanding play and results they have posted this year in ASA of PA Advance Play, plus the fact that District 6 is primed to be #1 for the 4th consecutive year in the ASA of PA with adult registrations, making for another banner year.
Joe Organek
