By HARRY CHAYKUN, Special to the Times
The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of Pennsylvania's District 6 staff is putting together plans for its Women's ASA of PA Charity Classic, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The tournament theme will be "Hope Starts Here."
Games will be played August 15-17 at Father Nall Field on MacDade Boulevard in Ridley Township.
The tournament Home Run Derby will be sponsored by the Wawa's of Ridley Township, and among the other fundraising events will be a dunk tank, which will be donated by Buck Frank Excavating Company. Suggestions are being taken for individuals who can raise the most money while sitting in the tank. Information can be found on the tournament Facebook page link https://www.facebook.com/womensasacharityclassic.
T-shirts and wristbands will be sold at the tournament, and anyone wishing to make a donation should make a check payable to American Cancer Society.
Among the members of the District 6 staff involved with the organization of the tournament are director Brenda Smerigan, assistant director Keith Ford, tournament coordinator Janet DiIorio, fundraising coordinator Kathy "Stix" Moritz, umpires-in-chief Bob Dukes and Bernadette Murphy, umpire assigner Jim Egan, District 6 umpire-in-chief Sonny Pompilii, field supervisor Mickey McLaughlin, and tournament and fundraising coordinator Joe Organek.
