Daily Times: Women's ASA Charity Classic - Casey's lays down the Law in claiming two wins
WOMEN'S ASA CHARITY CLASSIC
Saturday was a chance for the ladies from Casey's Saloon to make a statement in the Women's ASA Charity Classic at Father Nall Field and they did.
First, Casey's knocked off Suburban A champ Christopher's Footprints, 12-11, and then gained a bit of revenge with a 13-3 victory over Buck Frank Excavating in five innings. Buck Frank knocked Casey's out of the Suburban A playoffs.
Not a bad way to start the tournament.
Lexi Law's single in the bottom of the seventh inning chased home Lisa Calhoon with the winning run in the triumph over Christopher's Footprints. Law, Calhoon and Kathy Chermol all went 4-for-5 Tracy Gordon added a pair of triples.
Casey's wasn’t finished. Donna McGillian’s RBI single in the fifth inning put the 10-run rule in effect against Buck Frank. Ve Cicchinelli had a pinch-hit, RBI single in the fifth inning. Sarah Ecceles went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Elain Dorico was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
The wins earned Casey's a spot in Sunday's winners-bracket final where it will take on defending champion Appco's Sports World/Duke's Tavern at 2:15.
In other first-round/winners bracket games:
Jimmy Mac's 9, Dolan's Bar 7: Winning pitcher Shannon Gibson helped her cause with two hits and three RBIs. Kathy "Wiggs" Curtin contributed three hits and one RBI, while Mary Curtin chimed in with two hits.

Fagan capped her day by winning the home run derby. She hit eight dingers in the competition. Kathleen Chermol of Casey's was the winner of the DiMarini bat that was auctioned off. The derby which had twenty participants, raised $500 for the American Cancer Society.
The most popular item, and one of the most profitable in terms of fundraising, was the dunk tank sponsored by Buck Frank and Casey's.
Umpire Joe Reavy, Nall A.A. fastpitch coach Keith Ford, Suburban Women's Slow Pitch commissioner Chris Hoffman, and Dolan's coach Don Curry all agreed to man the tank. Curry had to be coaxed by his players to do it, according to a source who wished to remain anonymous.
The dunk tank raised $800 in the fight against cancer.
